The Wilmersdorfer Straße is a station of Metro - U7 in Berlin district of Charlottenburg . It was opened on April 28, 1978 as part of the north-west extension of this line towards Spandau .

The station is located under the Wilmersdorfer Straße of the same name in the area of the intersection with Kantstraße . The Charlottenburg train station is nearby . Construction of the underground station began on January 2, 1974, and the building shell was accepted on September 20, 1976. A possible underground line under Kantstrasse has already been considered structurally. Over a length of 25 meters, the outer walls in the area of the station were reinforced and supporting structures were integrated so that this section could be driven under as an underground bridge.

The Wilmersdorfer Straße underground station, like most of the new post-war buildings on the Berlin underground, was designed by the architect Rainer G. Rümmler . Rümmler's design of the station walls is derived from the lilies that were in the coat of arms of the eponymous place Wilmersdorf . He converted this into a repeating, large-meshed mosaic made of ceramic tiles .

In 2006 the station was completely renovated, whereby the old asphalt floor was replaced with a granite floor , the wall surfaces on the platform were given new cladding and an elevator was installed. In 2007, as part of the redesign of the pedestrian zone in Wilmersdorfer Strasse, the moving walks were dismantled .

The train station, which is referred to as Wd in the BVG train station directory , has an escalator and an elevator, so it is described as barrier-free .

To make it easier to change trains from the Charlottenburg S-Bahn station to the Wilmersdorfer Straße subway station, the S-Bahn platforms were relocated to the east between 2003 and 2005.

Connection

At the underground station, in addition to the Charlottenburg S-Bahn station, there are also transfer options to the BVG bus lines M49, X34, 309 and 310 .
