The 1987 UK Championship was a snooker tournament that was held from November 13-29, 1987 at the Guild Hall in Preston . Englishman Steve Davis won the tournament for the fourth time in a row, a one-time series at the UK Championship. He defeated Jimmy White 16:14.
Willie Thorne managed the first maximum break in tournament history in his opening match in the main tournament against Tommy Murphy . It was the only official 147 break of his career and only the fourth recognized maximum in professional snooker. In contrast to this, the previous three had been recorded for television.
Prize money
The winner of the tournament received £ 10,000 more than last year. Almost £ 55,000 more than in 1986 was paid out in total.
