The USS Alexandria (SSN-757) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles-class submarine to. It is named after the cities of Alexandria in Virginia and Louisiana .
history
SSN-757 was commissioned in 1984 and laid down at Electric Boat in the summer of 1987 . The launch took place three years later, the official commissioning in June 1991.
In 2004, the submarine operated on a voyage in four oceans, namely the Atlantic, Pacific, Indic and the Arctic Ocean, where the boat carried out the transit between the Pacific and Atlantic under the polar ice. It also passed through the Mediterranean and Red Seas. Among other things, the Alexandria took part in an exercise with the Indian Navy with the USS Gary (FFG-51) and the USS Cowpens (CG-63) . In 2006 she was assigned to escort the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) along with USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) , USS McFaul (DDG 74) and USS Nicholas (FFG 47) and protected it during journeys as part of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as well as securing the sea routes. For this, the crew was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation .
In early 2007, the submarine was involved in a Royal Navy exercise that took place in the Arctic. During this , an explosion took place on the British nuclear submarine HMS Tireless (S88) , with which the Alexandria operated, which cost the lives of two sailors. In addition, footage of the Alexandria for the film Stargate: Continuum was made in the Arctic in 2007 . This was followed by an overhaul in the EB shipyard. In 2008 the submarine was moved to the Mediterranean and further into the Indian Ocean.
