history
The Toledo was commissioned from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1988 and laid down in 1991 at the shipyard of the shipbuilding company, which is part of Northrop Grumman . After a construction period of two and a half years, the ship was launched in March 1994. The boat was christened by Mrs. Sabra Smith; the official commissioning took place on February 24, 1995.

In 2002 the boat was part of the combat group around the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) in Operation Enduring Freedom . In April 2003, the Toledo returned from a mission as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom , during which it participated in the bombardment of Iraq with BGM-109 Tomahawk . In 2004 the boat served as escort for the Kennedy in the Persian Gulf . On the way home, the Toledo circled the Cape of Good Hope instead of taking the normal route through the Suez Canal . The next six-month deployment began in early 2006.
In November 2006, the Toledo began a 13-month overhaul and modernization in its shipyard, which cost around 175 million dollars. During this time, several different brazing alloys were used for welding work , which was a violation of Navy specifications and significantly delayed the return to service. The Toledo was only undocked in March 2009 . A month later, she attended Fleet Week in Port Everglades .
In July 2009, a 50 cm long crack was found in the outer shell and a 2.5 cm long crack in the pressure shell below. During a dive, water would have penetrated through this into the submarine. After the leak was sealed, the Toledo moved across the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean in July 2010.
