About this picture

Uhingen is a city in the state of Baden-Württemberg . It is located about 35 kilometers east of Stuttgart and six kilometers west of Göppingen in the Filstal .

geography

Geographical location

The main town extends over two mountain slopes (Haldenberg / Wurmberg and Wasserberg) and the Filstal valley in between. The city is located in the district of Göppingen and thus belongs to the Stuttgart region and the Stuttgart administrative region .

City structure

The city is divided into the core town of Uhingen and the districts of Diegelsberg, Nassachmühle, Nassach, Baiereck, Holzhausen and Sparwiesen. The formerly independent communities of Baiereck , Holzhausen and Sparwiesen belong to Uhingen . The former municipality of Baiereck includes the village of Baiereck and the hamlets of Nassach and Unterhütt, as well as the abandoned village of Flyhof. The village of Holzhausen and the abandoned town of Erlenschwang belong to the former municipality of Holzhausen. The village of Sparwiesen belongs to the former municipality of Sparwiesen. The municipality of Uhingen within the limits of August 31, 1971 includes the city of Uhingen, the hamlets of Diegelsberg , Nassachmühle , Filseck Castle and Homestead, the Weilenberger Hof homestead and the Charlottenhof and Kies houses.

Division of space

According to data from the State Statistical Office , as of 2014.

Waters

The Neckar tributary Fils flows through the city from east to west . A canal branches off from it on the north side for about 870 m and the following streams flow into it, downstream from east to west: the Pfuhlbach from the left, the Blaubach from the right, the Tobelbach from the left, the Butzbach from the left, the Unterlochbach from the right, the Riedenbach from the right, the Rennenbach from the left and finally the Nassach from the right.

At the western end of the city is the Epplesee , south between the city center and Sparwiesen, the Charlottensee, a nature reserve . The kingfisher is at home at Epplesee , and yellow pond roses grow in Charlottensee .

In 1934, the Karl Epple company from Bad Cannstatt began to mine gravel in the Unterer Wasen district in order to meet the growing demand for the raw material that arose from the increasing use of concrete as a building material. The lease agreement with the municipality of Uhingen is dated March 29, 1935. The lease price was 75 Reichspfennig per square meter. So that Epple could begin, he immediately paid 5,000 Reichsmarks to the community. Their condition was that Epple should only employ workers from Uhingen in addition to his permanent workforce. In 1954, 16 of the 18 employees came from the town. The land was exploited in sections. The municipality had to expect the equivalent of around 60 ares every quarter. Because the community did not want to comply with Epple's wish to be allowed to dig up to the bleaching plant, he continued his activity south of the Fils on the sub-goal and Pentecost swans. The Hildsche Bridge came in handy, over which he had tracks laid so that the dredged material could be carried to the gravel works using carts. The exploited pits soon filled with groundwater, but were refilled. A pond was only left in front of the sorting, washing and loading facility. It was needed so that the company could work because around 1.5 million liters of water had to be pumped every day to clean the gravel. In August 1955 the Uhingen fishing association was founded in the “Güterbahnhof” inn. He leased the fishing rights on the "Epplesee", provided for a bank reinforcement with bushes and trees and worked with other associations to prevent the lake from being filled up. In 1961 and 1962, Epple submitted applications for additional land for gravel exploitation. The excavation operation was probably stopped between 1963 and 1965. In 1965 Epple was released from the contract against payment of a transfer fee.

history

Early history

The place name of Uhingen goes back to the Merovingian era. He passed on the name of a certain Uigo, who played an important role in the early history of the place as a clan elder, as landlord or even as the founder of a settlement.

The settlement is confirmed by archaeological finds from a burial ground from the 6th / 7th centuries. Century attested. In contrast to the late medieval town, this was north of the Fils in the Säuwasen district. It was archaeologically developed in 1976 as part of a construction project by the Allgaier company. Around ten body graves were found, some with additions.

The first written mention is made in the tithe register of the Diocese of Constance from 1275. At that time, most of the town was owned by the Counts of Aichelberg , who sold it in 1332 to their creditors, the County of Württemberg . The Uhinger district initially included other areas. It reached from Marbach in today's Faurndau via Wangen-Niederwälden and Holzhausen to Diegelsberg and on via the Schafhof near Albershausen to Sparwiesen. The fact that Reustadt near Hattenhofen and Bezgenriet belonged to the parish of Uhingen in the Middle Ages could be an indication that even these localities are closely connected to Uhingen. During the Thirty Years' War, after the lost battle of Nördlingen in 1634, the victorious imperial troops advanced to Württemberg and devastated large parts of towns, villages and farmland. In connection with this, Uhingen also burned down. At the time of Altwuerttemberg , Uhingen formed a staff office in the Göppingen office together with Sparwiesen and Diegelsberg, which was headed by the staff schultheiß , an official of the Duke of Württemberg.

19th and 20th centuries

When the young Kingdom of Württemberg was reorganized at the beginning of the 19th century, Uhingen remained with the Oberamt Göppingen .

In 1847, the Filstalbahn was connected to the network of the Württemberg railway and thus the incentive for some companies to build a factory here. During this time, the textile industry began with production in the areas of weaving and textile finishing.

In the 1920s, motorization created the basis for the growth of the metal industry in the region. During the administrative reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , Uhingen came to the district of Göppingen in 1938. After the end of the Second World War , the place became part of the American zone of occupation and thus belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. In the post-war period the economic power of the area and the wide spread of trades increased strongly. Uhingen was granted city rights on June 1, 1997.

It connects the red shield with the silver Obereck - the coat of arms of the Counts of Aichelberg , who owned most of the village until 1332 - with the wavy bar as a symbol for the Fils that flows through the village.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Street

Uhingen can be reached via federal road 10 , which runs right past the site, and federal road 297 ( Lorch - Tübingen ).

railway station

Uhingen has a train station on the Filstalbahn ( Stuttgart - Ulm ). In addition to the two main tracks towards Stuttgart and Ulm, there are several shunting tracks that were used daily until the mid-1990s. In addition, the Allgaier company has its own siding, which is still often used today to transport raw goods or finished components; a Köf is available as a shunting locomotive for this purpose. A third track with a platform was also available by mid-2005 . The DB Netz built it on the number of tracks and switches in recent years, which are not required in normal operation. This increasingly leads to the passing on and amplification of delays, as trains can no longer stop in Uhingen to be overtaken. This is now only possible at Göppingen and Ebersbach (Fils) stations .
