Wilhelmshausen is the northeastern part of the municipality of Fuldatal in the northern Hessian district of Kassel .
Geographical location
Wilhelmshausen is located on the southern roof of the Reinhardswald on the north bank of the Fulda . The Mühlbach flows through the village and the Elsterbach on the eastern edge, which corresponds to the northeastern municipal boundary; both arise north of the Gahrenberg and flow into the Fulda.
history
The Wilhelmshausen settlement emerged from the Walshausen Benedictine monastery, which was first mentioned in a document in 1150 . The Romanesque St. Mary's basilica was also built at this time . In 1293 it was transferred to the Cistercian monastery Hardehausen , which re-occupied the convent , which had entered into in the following years, first in 1310 from Riddagshausen and in 1320 from its own house with monks. With the introduction of the Reformation in the Landgraviate of Hesse in 1526, the monastery was closed and Landgrave Philipp's property was confiscated.
In 1572, Landgrave Wilhelm IV of Hessen-Kassel systematically awarded the former monastery lands to new settlers. Since then the place has been called Wilhelmshausen . After the Thirty Years' War , the Am Berge settlement was built , where initially the poorer population lived.
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Fuldatal was created on January 1, 1970 through the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent municipalities Ihringshausen, Simmershausen, Wahnhausen, Knickhagen and Wilhelmshausen. This made Wilhelmshausen a part of the large community of Fuldatal. Ihringshausen became the seat of administration.
Until 1988 there was a ferry across the Fulda. On the route originally operated by a cable ferry, the Wilhelmshausen car ferry was used from 1928 . This ferry is now in use as the Amanda passenger and bicycle ferry on the Weser near Bad Oeynhausen .
