During his administration, there were a number of failed attempts at new settlements - Sancti Spiritus, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz de la Sierra. This last, in the southern Amazon Basin, was eventually successful, but only after the city had been moved over 200 kilometers from site chosen by Chaves. The former location is in the vicinity of San José de Chiquitos and is now an archaeological site under the name Santa Cruz la Vieja.

Silambarasan acted in Tamil films as a child artist in projects like Monisha En Monalisa, Shabash Babu, Rajadi Rajavan, and Thiruvalla in minor roles. His father, T. Rajendar had an idea to make Silambarasan direct a film at the age of 15 but dropped later. His debut in movies as a hero came in the form of Kaadhal Azhivathillai, a Tamil language movie also featuring the debut of Charmy Kaur, a popular Telugu actress. The film was highly hyped but the film flopped at the box-office and it was followed by Dhum and Kuthu with Rakshitha and Divya Spandana respectively. These films also did average business at the box-office.
Alai with Trisha Krishnan followed, it became his first film to run over 50 days at a cinema but once again he faced controversy due to some scenes between Trisha Krishnan and himself. His next film, Kovil with Sonia Agarwal was a super hit at the box-office. Silambarasan then took a year's break to concentrate on Manmadhan project, he wrote the screenplay for Manmadhan. The film starred Jyothika, Mandira Bedi and Yana Gupta opposite him and the film became a runaway triumph at the box-office breaking many records especially in Madurai and it ran for 275 days in Kollywood. The film earned rave reviews and changed many peoples' minds about Silambarasan's career. His next film, Thotti Jaya also was a hit, in which he had paired with Gopika. For Thotti Jaya he sported a black beard in the role of an orphaned gangster who finds love.

It is the decade of remixes in Kollywood. Scores of yesteryear popular chartbusters are being remixed these days. Joining the long list is 'Vachukava Unnai Mattum' a very popular song from Rajinikanth's hit film 'Nallavanukku Nallavan'.

Music composer Yuvan has remixed the song for Silambarasan's 'Silambattam'. Moreover, the actor has crooned the song himself. This being a peppy number, it was shot featuring a large number of dancers recently.

'Silambattam' is fast nearing completion and would hit the screens very soon. Meanwhile, after completing 'Silambattam', Simbu will start shooting for 'Poda Podi', which is to be shot extensively in Canada. Sarath Kumar's daughter Varalaxmi plays his heroine.

Personal life
Relationships
Silambarasan created headlines when publicity posters sprung up around Chennai of his Vallavan co-star, Nayantara and him kissing. However, despite maintaining a high-profile relationship, involving the press, the pair broke up soon after the film was released citing differences. Nonetheless, after the break-up, pictures were released anonymously of the pair kissing each other at Nayantara's apartment. Further controversy was created when rumours leaked out that the plot of Silambarasan's forthcoming film, Kettavan, was based on the couple's true love story.

Earlier, Silambarasan was involved in a romantic affair with aishwarya Rajinikanth who is married to Dhanush now. Silambarasan and Dhanush are considered to be rivals in their industry. Silambarasan's former movies 'Manmadhan' and 'Vallavan' were based on different phases of his relationship with aishwarya. These movies seemed to be Silambarasan's explanation of why the relationship did not work out.

Television Controversy
Silambarasan donned the role of a judge during the second season of Star Vijay's Jodi Number One, where the participants are television artistes. On the episode aired on October 6, 2007, Silambarasan told the participant, Prithvi Raj, that he didn't perform well in the round. Prithvi Raj, unable to accept the comments, refused to talk. However Silambarasan provoked him to talk, which made Prithvi Raj say that Silambarasan was using the situation to get some footage of himself. Silambarasan left the show in disbelief only to return teary eyed after recalled by the remaining participants.
Later Prithvi Raj was eased out of the show as the show rules state that, "Once a participant leaves the stage/set before the judges, he forfeits his chance to participate in the show".

Francisco Ortiz de Vergara was a Spanish conquistador and colonizer.

He succeeded Gonzalo de Mendoza as governor of Rio de la Plata. He was elected, rather than appointed by the king or his predecessor. His election was confirmed by bishop Pedro de la Torre, but he was demoted by the Royal Audience and returned to Spain in 1565 following charges by Nuño de Chaves.
