The [[Genus]] [[Cynops]] is due for a split. the [[Chinese]] [[species]] wil be one genus and the [[Japanese]] species another. Cynops chenggongenis is at the centre of all this. There is much debate about the validity of [[Cynops cyanurus]] and Cynops chenggongensis. There is a suggestion that most of the captive animals labelled [[Cynops cyanurus]] could be chenggongensis. but further analysis of the genus is needed to clear the situation up. |
