Hi Naconkantari, I believe that the AfD for [[What Really Happened]] has been open for a couple days longer than it should have been. Do you mind closing it or having someone else do it? Thanks. --[[User:Strothra|Strothra]] 18:19, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!

  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Hey, You're going to have to tell why what you're doing with "revert" editing on this piece. I thought what I was putting on was useful and informative. Please explain..... Good Work.

Hi, Naconkantari, I want to award you barn-star because you're very good wikipedian even better than other Administrators(Wikipedian). ^.^. You always catch the vandalism, and also protect other owner's room. That means You protect the article from vandals. So, Thanks. Please Send me message. Complaint

I recently correct a mistake on the page Nigger and was almost banned for it by you. But what you dfail to realise is that the word "Chigger" comes from the words "nigger" and "chinky," not "chinese".

Sorry about that, feel free to re-add the information. Naconkantari e|t||c|m 20:14, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know

For the record, PlagueRat did not actually remove any warnings from his talk page. Not that I could see, anyway. As for the rest of his edits... I have no idea if he's even worth arguing with, or if he's just a troll, but I'm giving it a try. DS 18:32, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Claim - reverted edits

Dear Naconkantari,

why did you reverted edits I made ie. on the page about Nissan ? I added an external link to a non-commercial club of Nissan cars enthusiasts (*NissanClub.cz International Nissan cars club). This website and few other car club websites I develop several years as my hobby and it is not any kind of commercial project. Does I have to understand your act as a demonstration of your power ? You are an administrator, so you can do anythink ? Some stupid guy added link, you'll delete it ? Please explain me your reason.

Best regards, Pavel

The external link guidelines states that you may not add links to commercial sites or sites that you own. Naconkantari e|t||c|m 12:29, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocking

Is that thing still triggering off those autoblocks? Do we have another alternative other than removing those blocks manually? --HappyCamper 02:50, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only option that I can think of is having a developer change his password manually. Other than that, I just don't know. If he's unblocked, that means more vandalism, but while he's blocked, that means AOL denial of service. I'll see what I can do. Naconkantari e|t||c|m 02:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I removed a bunch of these blocks earlier today, but it seems rather silly if this is going to be ongoing...I was thinking of this...apparently, the user has not made any contributions to Wikipedia. Why not unblock the account for say, 10 seconds, and see what sorts of edits the account is attempting to do? After that, we can block it again. If we are lucky, perhaps it will only target one page, and if we protect the page, the bot might not be smart enough to switch to another to do the vandalism. Perhaps wishful thinking, but might be better than having to clear these blocks every minute or so. What do you think? --HappyCamper 03:05, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's amazing how fast it can get autoblocked. I finally managed to expire the block and the bot hasn't made any contributions. It appears that all it does is attempt to load the edit page, gets blocked, and then goes for another random page, switching IP addresses at every different page. I'll keep watch on it for a while longer and see if anything changes. Naconkantari e|t||c|m 03:19, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For all those little things! --HC
You, my friend, deserve a barnstar. Thanks for keeping a sharp eye on these things. As for me, I actually thought the blocks might go to infinity... --HappyCamper 03:27, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lol sorry, I'll let you unblock and reblock...

Recent "bot" block

Hi, this is 209.236.231.253. I recently updated {{welcomeip}} so that it would substitute {{PAGENAME}} each time it was subst'ed, by using <includeonly> tags. Obviously, this would mess up any existing template transclusions; hence my recent subst'ing. I'm not a bot, I was just going down Special:Whatlinkshere rapidly :) 207.150.184.42 03:55, 18 May 2006 (UTC) (by the way, this IP is an open proxy, you may wish to block it)[reply]

I'll unblock the original IP if you can please keep your edit rate to 1-2 a minute. Please reply on the original IP's talk page, as your current IP has been blocked as an open proxy. Naconkantari 03:57, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism to my user page

Thanks for the catch. One wishes one knew the originating IP of a vandal who makes one edit (vandalism), then disappears for one-point-five months only to hit someone's user page (3x). Thanks again! :) RadioKirk talk to me 03:09, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One of the drawbacks of the one-click-AIV-reporting feature in VandalProof is how easy it is to nominate the wrong person. I'll leave AmiDaniel a note in the bugs section about it. Err... sorry.

Yesterday I see someone repeatedly edited the "Misère game" article to include a giant sci-fi story, and I can't help but think that it's partly my fault. See, back in March, I stumbled across that story in the page's history when I was reverting vandalism from a different user, then recently I decided that it might be appreciated by the rest of the general internet, so I posted the story of how I found it and a link to the history page on this topic on Newgrounds. I guess I should have expected that someone would do something stupid like this, but in my defence, I thought that the whole idea of the story thing was really really funny. Anyway, sorry about that, and thanks for fixing up the vandalism. --Elfer 14:17, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The American Pregnancy Association is a national nonprofit health organization promoting reproductiv e and pregnancy wellness through research, education, advocacy and community awareness. I had someone inform me that the Association should be listed on appropriate topics within the Wikipedia encyclopedia. I understand the need to keep commercial sites from spamming the site. The Association provides patients with a toll-free education support line, - everything to patients is provided free - couseling, education, support, referrals to local resources. I believe I have linked appropriately with the objective of helping people - not sales. Please reinstate, Pregdoc 14:40, 20 May 2006

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:57, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect Deletion

Hello,

I think you deleted a redirect I created from "Matt Albert" to my user page. I think (probably wrongly) that that redirect is covered under Alternate Names... (?) It's mainly there for a few friends who wanted to look up my name in wikipedia, but I'm still not too sure that that re-direct qualified for deletion.

If I'm way off and/or completely wrong... then sorry. FrogStomp 02:46, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hi, I have a quick question for you. I notice that you are the person who checked the open proxies that I had suggested. Do you scan all the ports or do you just scan 80, 8080 and 3128 or other common ports used for ghost machines? I had noticed that all the IP addresses were listed on Spam blacklists. It just seems strange to me that the IP addresses are mostly geographically in Korea but were involved in edit wars in Scottish issues. One address was shown to be a proxy user:59.4.230.99 and I have put up a request for check user also, here [1]. thanks --Karatekid7 03:27, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Adminship
Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, Highway Rainbow Sneakers

Just out of curiosity...

I'm just curious, why are some blocks 31 hours? Is there a special reason for that number? I can understand 24 hours, but why 31? G.He 03:47, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really think that there is any reason except that it is included in the drop-down box when blocking. Other than that, I haven't a clue. Naconkantari 03:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why should the commercial product WebMD personal health record be listed?

I'm curious about why WebMD's personal health record (a commercial product for which users must pay an yearly fee) isn't being deleted. Shouldn't it? Please search the wikipedia for personal health record. You'll see their commercial product listed. Here's from WebMD's site on their personal health record product called WebMD Health Manager (https://healthmanager.webmd.com/manager/default.aspx?secure=1): "WebMD Health Manager Subscription Service is available free for 6 months, and then only $29.95 per year. "

It's about notability. If I do a google search for WebMD.com, I get 3 million hits. If I do a google search for RecordsForLiving.com, I get 300. WebMD is notable. RecordsForLiving is not. Naconkantari 04:10, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to run. You have no right to keep removing it. Please stop, I dont want to get in trouble because I have to keep reverting it. Thanks 03Rotpar 23:06, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want to run? You will not succeed and are wasting everyone's time. Naconkantari 23:06, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is really sad. I feel I have to "ask your premission" to run becuse I feel you will block me if I replace my nomination. If you feel it is a wast of time why don't you just let it stay, it takes more time and effort to keep reverting it. Thanks 03Rotpar 23:10, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it takes no time at all to make a revert/block. Please quit pestering me on my talk page. If you want to apply to be a sysop, then please do so in a few months. Naconkantari 23:11, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

May I "please run" there is no rule against it and you have no right to prevent me to. 03Rotpar 23:12, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am not preventing you from running. I am telling you that if you revert one more time on the RFA page, you will be blocked for violating the three-revert rule. Naconkantari 23:13, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You "are" preventing me from running. You keep removing my self nomination and threaten to block me if I replace it. Will you also be blocked because you also keep "reverting" the self nomination I placed there? 03Rotpar 23:17, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I will request another administrator to block you. Please note that I am not the only person to revert your addition. Naconkantari 23:18, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a rule preventing me from running? I dont want to get into an argument with you over this, so is there someone else I can talk to about this? 03Rotpar 23:22, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, there is no official policy preventing you from running, but the guidelines are that editors with less than 2-3 months experience and less than 1500 edits do not succeed. Naconkantari 23:23, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If there is "no official policy" can you just let me run, you dont have to vote, just oppose if you dont want me to be an admin. Thanks 03Rotpar 23:25, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I am not preventing you from running. Multiple editors have removed your nomination. If this is not enough proof that you will not succeed, then I do not know what is. Naconkantari 23:26, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So, if I replace my nomination will it be allowed to stay or not? 03Rotpar 23:27, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You will be blocked if you revert one more time. If you can find another editor to place your nomination, then you will not be blocked for 3RR. Naconkantari 23:29, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll handle this Naconkantari. Assume good faith! (P.S. thanks for the revert on my userpage. Prodego talk 23:35, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hi Naconkantari,

Would these edits be considered vandalism? The user is reverted an article to a version several months ago without bringing it up on the talk page. Thanks. —Khoikhoi 23:28, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would call the most recent one (third) vandalism, but the other two, I'd discuss with them on their talk page.
Ok, thanks! —Khoikhoi 23:33, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SPAM

hey mate sorry if i broke the rules but I didn't realise I did. For example, what'w wrong to put this website as external link for the word "ultra" and "fan" , considering that it is what this website is all about? Anyway on ce again, I apologise CHasseur13

My page

Hey - thanks very much for the sprotect on my user page last week. I think it's probably safe enough now to unprotect. If anything crops up, I'll scream like a schoolgirl for help again. =) Cheers! Tony Fox 00:03, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for stepping in on the What Really Happened AfD. I hope that you continue to monitor that discussion. I had no idea they were going to put it up on their website and that it would become such a big thing. --Strothra 15:23, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. By the way, you reverted something on the AfD right after I posted. Were you perhaps trying to delete the anon comment that I moved down from the established section to the anon section? I don't see which terrorist reference you are talkign about. Thanks. Hobbeslover talk/contribs 23:55, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sorry for the confusion. I was trying to remove the IP's comment that was inappropriate. Naconkantari 23:56, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, the edit is still there, because of an edit conflict when we edited. I shall remove it Hobbeslover talk/contribs 23:58, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As you were blocking this IP, I was running a whois, and it's a school IP. Permission to unblock and reblock for 3 hours? :) RadioKirk talk to me 16:31, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead, it doesn't bother me. Naconkantari 16:59, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanku :) RadioKirk talk to me 17:08, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Revert on my user page

Why did you revert in this edit of my user page?

Sign me puzzled,
ILike2BeAnonymous 20:21, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was added by a vandal that was blocked indefinately. If you want to readd-it, feel free to do so. Naconkantari 20:23, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Imposter.

Hi, Naconkantari. I want to report imposter of User:Arwel Parry. Did you already check the ID that is even worse than vandalism. I'm just scared. But It was sudden. Basically, He impersonated User:Arwel Parry. ID sounds like abusing him. Sorry for bothering you about ID imposter. So, Could you reply on my discussion's page? Thanks. Daniel5127, 05:48, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese?

Are you actually Japanese? I'm thinking because the username is a Japanese username. Thanks! - Bigtop 20:38, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope ;) I do, however, have an account on the Japanese wikipedia/wikinews/wiktionary. Naconkantari 21:30, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vote stacking

The user _meco placed this statemend at the bottom of the What Really Happened AfD:

Keep. It should be brought to the attention of all participating in this debate that in addition to Jeff Rense, Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com, also Dissident Voice has been proposed for deletion at this time. __meco 08:27, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

This is a vote stacking attempt not to mention the fact that he gives no discussion to keeping or deleting the article. In fact he has done this on all of the AfD's of the pages in question not to mention accusing me of bad faith nominating on my talk page. Is this permitted? --Strothra 13:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User Morgen Wick

Hello. Thank you for your recent comment regarding this user. However, the talk page of Mörgen Wick was emty and therefore one could not possibly have known that there was anything amiss. For future reference how does one know if there are problems with a new username? --Newton2 19:27, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please note also that a new user "Morqan wick" has just registered account. I assume that this username will also be blocked for being too similar to the aforementioned name. --Newton2 19:33, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One possibility would be to wait a minute or two after the account is created and check the block log. Naconkantari 19:43, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks I will note that for future reference although I still think it would rather hinder every operation on WP if you had to go through pages of checks before hand. --Newton2 19:50, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Award

I was quite surprised to receive that award! And equally surprised that it should be removed so quickly. Oh, well. LOL. Jester2001 20:30, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see what the award is for now, must have been a vandal... Jester2001 20:36, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ynhockey's RfA and civility.

Hi. Would it be appropriate for me to comment below his vote that User:U-Two has fewer than 20 edits leading up to this RfA, or should I find something constructive to do. I don't want to be incivil. Thanks :) Dlohcierekim 21:50, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism on my user page

Hi. Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. Regards, Carioca 23:23, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks!

If I hadn't looked at your contribs I never would have known that I had attained the status where I was being impersonated. I must really be working hard and being very visible working on Wikipedia! I should note that User:Morqan Wick's sole contribution was to mimic the talk page of User:Capsgm2002 for User:Caqsgm2002, another doppeIganger account that has not been blocked yet. Morgan Wick 04:05, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that was fast! Did you even read this page, or did you read my mind? Morgan Wick 04:10, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thanks
Thanks
Nakon/archive4, thank you for participating in my RfA. Unfortunately, a great number of oppose voters felt that I lacked experience, and a consensus was not reached (the final tally was 30/28/10). Perhaps I will try again in another few months when I have a few more edits under my belt. If I do, I hope I can count on your support. Thanks again! Cool3 talk 20:30, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

I meant to thank you earlier for reverting the vandalism to my user page. Thanks, --Guinnog 02:37, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Open proxy

Hi,

I think 213.42.2.29 is an open proxy being used to vandalize pages. [2]

AfD

Hi Naconkantari, I believe that the AfD for What Really Happened has been open for a couple days longer than it should have been. Do you mind closing it or having someone else do it? Thanks. --Strothra 18:19, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Hello, thank you for reverting the vandalism made to my talk page. It was very kind of you :) Wright123 18:25, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
