Amy Parks was born on June 10, 1982 in Melbourne, Australia. She currently hosts the late night Channel Nine game show Quizmania.

Television career

Amy Parks’ career has been one of extreme diversity. Starting at a young age as a GSODA junior (a local Geelong Theatre group), Amy played various roles on the stage. This gave her great experience for her next big part as the lead singer of the Sweethearts of Swing (a jazz band housed at Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College). Her role in the Sweethearts not only took her performing all over Australia but also earned her a ticket to perform at the prestigious Montreaux Jazz Festival.

After being accepted to RMITs Bachelor of Journalism course, Amy became very involved in community television taking on the hosting role for three seasons of Raucous (a live-to-air music show), and also became both producer and presenter of Newsline and Pluck. It was during her time at RMIT that Amy was asked to join the team at Fox Footy and present 26 episodes of Young Guns (a show focussing on the lives and careers of young footballers).

Returning to university after her time on Fox Footy, Amy went on to finish her degree at RMIT, whilst still doing various freelancing journalism and presenting activities. These included times at The Age newspaper, Media Giants and the Essendon Football Club, as well as hosting Channel 31’s Real Time Racing, and conducting a series of interviews over three years at the annual Falls Festival for a historical DVD. Amy also worked full time after graduation at the Department of Justice as a corrections officer!

Amy’s latest project saw her presenting a children’s DVD, Talking Time (to be released commercially Sept 2006 in Australia, Canada, USA & NZ). In this role Amy played beside a collection of puppets in a DVD that is aimed at increasing parent’s awareness of the importance of instilling good speech practices in their children.

Later in 2006 Parks was given the role of co-hosting the late night quiz show Quizmania on Channel Nine with actress Nikki Osborne, former Big Brother house-mate Brodie Young, Katrina Conder and Suze Raymond.

Music career

Loomset were formed in early 1999 by Steve Tough and D.T., and the early years were spent building up a reputation on Melbourne's live circuit and recording the "Elevator Music" and "Talking in Circles" CD's, which were distributed for promotional purposes. Loomset slowly worked their way up the band hierarchy, and began to become a regular feature in the cities better venues, such as The Corner, The Espy, The Punters Club and the Armadale, as well as pulling a Fauves support slot and completing two summer tours of the surf coast along the way.

Opportunity came knocking in 2001, when the owner of local studio/label "Indent Music" offered to record and put out what was to be the first official Loomset album "Disguise". Six months of toiling in the studio saw 90 hours of recording whittled down to 7 tracks, although the departure of the band's original vocalist meant the album was unfortunately shelved. The band still threatens to bring it out one day.

Enter Foxtel's very own Amy Parks on vox and a six months hiatus, working up new songs and a new direction for the band. Their comeback gig at the Corner Hotel was a huge success so look out for upcoming gigs.

Winterland is Loomset's first release with Amy Parks on the vox. It was recorded with Neilo in his Spotswood studio. The title track has a retro feel, with strong vox and dynamics. Soapbox is pure pop, while the Fighter rocks out. All Comes Back is subdued indie guitar angst, while Tattshott pulls out all the stops for a slab of Weezer-style pop.[1]

The band has a pop/rock sound, with Radiohead, Weezer, Mercury Rev and Dandy Warhols cited as influences.
