Prof. Dr. Georg Gaenswein (born 1957 in Germany) is the private secretary to Pope Benedict XVI. A professor of Canonical Law at the Pontifice Holy Cross University in Rome, he is considered a brilliant theologist. "Don Giorgio", as he is called, was born in a small town in Germany and was ordained as a priest in 1984, since then he has dedicated himself to academic activities. He arrived in Rome as Cardinal Josef Clemens' private secretary and, in 1996, was invited to join the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith by Cardinal Ratzinger, and later became his secretary. Not a typical stereotype for a priest, Gaenswein is a devoted tennis player and loves flying.
