Wallaby (わらびー) is a fantasy manga by Kiyohiko Azuma. It was published in Game-jin magazine from December 1998 until the summer 2000 issue, and collected in Kiyohiko Azuma Sakuhinshu: Azumanga 2.

Wallaby was published intermittantly at the same time Azuma was writing Azumanga Daioh and it shares some of the same drawing style. However, unlike Azumanga Daioh's slice-of-life manner, Wallaby is simply fantasy. Azuma himself described Wallaby as a heartful, slapstick romantic comedy.[citation needed] The story was stopped without a conclusion, and the author seems to have no intention of continuing it.

Plot

After his accidental death, Akira Warabi's spirit becomes trapped inside a stuffed wallaby, which was made as a tribute by his classmate, Kokoro Kosaka. She agrees to let Warabi live in her bedroom while he waits for the angel who placed his soul into Kokoro's doll to return him to his human body.

Characters

Kokoro Kosaka (小坂こころ, Kosaka Kokoro)
A 16-year-old high school student, Kokoro Kosaka once deeply admired Warabi while he was still alive. She made the stuffed wallaby (Warabi's current body) as a tribute during his funeral.
Akira Warabi (蕨明, Warabi Akira) / Wallaby
A classmate of Kokoro's, Warabi was quite popular among the girls at his school, even garnering the attention of Kokoro. After his death, his soul was transferred to a wallaby stuffed toy. Until he can return to his human form, he is forced to remain in Kokoro's care.
