Kiyohiko Azuma ( Japanese あ ず ま き よ ひ こ , Azuma Kiyohiko ; actually: 東 清 彦 ; * May 27, 1968 in Takasago , Hyōgo , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

At the beginning of his career he drew under the pseudonym Jōji Jonokuchi ( 序 ノ 口 譲 二 , Jonokuchi Jōji ) hentai manga, but also parodies of well-known anime series such as Tenchi Muyo! , in the form of non-professionally published dōjinshi . In the late 1990s, his short stories appeared in manga magazines .

From 1999 to 2002 he drew the Yonkoma manga Azumanga Daioh , a comedy about a group of high school girls. Azumanga Daioh became very successful in Japan within a short time, was implemented as an anime and translated into numerous languages. With this he created the first Yonkoma manga, which also had international success.

Since 2003 he has been working on Yotsuba &! For Comic Dengeki Daiō magazine . which is also a comedy but not a Yonkoma manga.
