Guy
''Final Fight series, Street Fighter series character
First gameFinal Fight

Guy (ガイ, Gai, also written as 凱) is a video game character from both the Final Fight and Street Fighter series. He is the 39th Bushin ninja master, and wears a reddish-orange ninja gi with red sneakers. Guy is of Japanese descent. He is taught that the way of a Bushinryu of Ninjutsu decrees that one must fight against evil.

Story

Not much is known about Guy's past, other than he was trained by a Bushin-ryu master.

In the original Final Fight, Guy teams up with his training partner (later stated by Capcom that they have never met and the dialogue about him and Jessica being friends was added for the US version), Cody and the Mayor of Metro City, Mike Haggar, to save Jessica (Cody's girlfriend and Haggar's daughter) from Horace Belger (the leader of the Mad Gear gang). He defeated the Japanophile, Sodom in a famous match at an underground ring with many Mad Gear members watching (earning Sodom's eternal wrath in the process), and then goes on to Metro City's Industrial Area, where he defeats Rolento after being told he would make a good soldier. He re-unites with Haggar and Cody at the very end to defeat Belger and rescue Jessica. Once she is rescued, Guy walks away, but not before he knocks Cody down to allow Jessica to confront him, after being appalled by the lack respect he saw towards her. http://www.sasse.co.uk/sf/guy-pic.jpg

Final Fight Revenge

In Final Fight Revenge, Guy sensed evil within Metro City once more, and goes to destroy it. Strangely enough, it was Belger, the departed Mad Gear leader, resurrected as a zombie. He defeats Belger, but is concerned that the evil of the man has corrupted him. He sets out to purify his body and mind, and begins to travel the world to achieve this, train, and discover the true power of his fighting style as well. So focused was he in attempting to discover the power of Bushin, he was not around to help save the 37th Bushin Master Genryusai and his daughter Rena (Guy's fiancé) in Final Fight 2 (although he writes Haggar, Carlos, and fellow Bushin ninja Maki a thank you letter upon hearing that Genryusai and his fiance are saved and Mad Gear is finally destroyed for good). It is highly assumed that Guy's failure to help with the rescue of his fiance and master was likely due to his battles during the Street Fighter Alpha series (see below). Street Fighter Alpha

Guy reappeared in the Street Fighter Alpha franchise, and in Street Fighter Alpha 2 he sought out his master (the 38th Bushin master) Zeku, whom he needed to defeat in order to become the next Bushinryu master. Guy eventually does defeat his mentor, becomes the 39th Bushin Master, and is charged with bringing down Shadoloo. He also could have fought Sodom and Rolento during this time, but it is unknown.

Shortly as foretold in Street Fighter Alpha 3, Guy is finishing up his travels and returning to his home, Metro City, but is still focused on his quest of destroying Shadoloo and its head, M. Bison. He meets up with Rose, realizes her connection to Bison, and urges her not to go on a suicide mission in destroying him. She refuses and they fight, and despite losing the battle, Guy more or less resolves to follow her and help her out.

He also meets up with his friend Cody during this time, and is dismayed to discover that he has escaped from jail and is basically a thug. The two battle (Guy is egged on by Cody), but they both calm down and Guy realizes that Cody is still a good person. He notes that all the people Cody has fought over the years have been criminals and dregs on society, despite his seeming addiction to fighting. The two part amicably and Guy wishes his friend the best. He eventually catches up to Rose's unconscious body, and carries her to the hospital, but feels a flash of evil (Bison is in now in control of Rose's body). He shakes it off, but is concerned. Soon after, Guy realizes that as Bushin master, being decisive in his actions is key, morality is irrelevant. To that end, he adopts an "end justifies the means" philosophy. http://sfgalleries.net/art/sfa2/series2/guy.jpg

Final Fight 3

In Final Fight 3, Guy finally returns to Metro City and teams up with Haggar to rid Metro City of the Skull Cross gang, the latest gang to try to pick up where Mad Gear had left off. They are joined by Metro City SCU officer Lucia Morgan and former gang member who double crossed the gang, Dean (who wanted revenge when Skull Cross murdered his family). The four succeed, and are able to rid Metro City of the criminals. Metro City is left in shambles, but Guy does not seem to care, and leaves that to Haggar.

Soon after, Guy takes up residence in Metro City's Japantown district, and gets involved in the criminal underworld, as a means to keep his part of town clean. He acquires a large tattoo on his left arm (which is a nod to the Yakuza who are traditionally marked with either a dragon or koi fish tattos or something on that line). Guy teaches Bushin at his dojo, with several ninjas-in-training, or "Genin," at his command. At some point, he committed a crime, which Cody purposely took the fall for. In Final Fight: Streetwise, it is revealed that Cody and Guy have not spoken since that incident. His home attacked, Guy uses his Genin to help Kyle Travers find Cody and stop the infiltration of the designer drug Glycolauric Octanol, or G.l.o, into Metro City.

Trivia

  • Reportedly, at some time in his life, prior to the events of Street Fighter Alpha, Guy met and came into conflict with Ryu, resulting in a fight in which Ryu emerged the victor by delivering a kick to Guy's stomach with a Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. This explains why Guy knows the move and why Ryu is his sub-boss in Street Fighter Alpha (and vice versa).
  • Up to the production of Final Fight: Streetwise, Capcom's official statement was that Guy had gone missing sometime after his last appearance of Final Fight 3, and that fellow Bushin ninja Maki had attempted to find him so she can defeat him and become the 40th Bushin master.
  • The sneakers that Guy wears in the Street Fighter Alpha series appear to be Nike Dunks. Later in the Final Fight series, Guy wore Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars.
  • If Alpha Guy's story in Final Fight One is to be taken into any consideration, he feels he's been dreaming of rescuing Jessica again to find something important in the past. Ironically, as an in-joke, all that he can realize is that he's taken to wearing new sneakers instead of his ninja boots from the original version.
  • Guy makes a cameo appearance in Ibuki's Pocket Fighter ending. While touring around Tokyo, she runs into him while he's carrying groceries bought for Zeku. When Ibuki realizes that he's a Bushin clan ninja, Guy uses a special "ninja technique" (distracting Ibuki with a baked potato) and walks off to finish his errands.
  • Guy makes an appearance as a playable character in Namco x Capcom. In the game, he teams up with Sho, aka Ginzu the Ninja, from Captain Commando. He is not the only Final Fight character in the game, as Mike Haggar also makes an appearance as a single unit character.
  • Rose is Guy's secret challenger in SFA2. Before the fight, he asks Rose the question, "Don't you know that this will be your Final Fight?" This is a reference to his debut game. Also, Guy himself is Dan's secret challenger, calling his moves "cute". This prompts Dan to call Guy "Grasshopper", which is a reference to the Kung Fu TV series.
  • The 1-Up item of Final Fight 2 is actually a doll of Guy. When you pick the doll up, a small portrait of Guy appears on the right side of the player's life gauge with his name underneath the portrait.
  • Guy also makes a brief appearance in the well-received anime Street Fighter Alpha. He, along with Sodom, Rolento, Adon, Dhalsim and Birdie, accompanies Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li on their mission to resue Shun from Dr. Sadler's Shadowlaw laboratory. He also participates in buying time for Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li to sneak inside the lab by showing off his skills for Sadler along with the others. At this time, he is seen fighting Dhalsim, who teleports away from his Bushin-style jumpkick and reappeares behind him for an apparent attack. Guy is last seen inside Sadler's dungeon with the other fighters, being rescued by Ken and Chun-Li. An interesting note in the movie is Guy's apparent dislike for Ryu, who once defeated him in a street fight: he and Ryu are seen sitting side by side on the plane to Sadler's lab. They are the only ones with their arms folded and their eyes shut and angry, deliberately not looking at each other.
