*Mav (short for Maverick) is also the name of a [[MUCK]] regular who became notorious for constantly sending pages to the wrong person ('Don't you just love it when you wear your underwear for a few days straight, and they kind of conform to your body' or a similar quote). Today, if you mis-send a page to someone on any [[MU*]], saying "Mav" is a way to tell them that the page was not for them, a term that has since spread to other places such as [[Second Life]] and [[World of Warcraft]] which have whisper or page commands that are easily mis-directed. Witnesses to a "Mav" are also known to show the term out publicly. As a [[backronym]] has come to mean 'mis-addressed voice' or chat. |
