Milton High School is located in Milton, Massachusetts. The student population is over a thousand. Milton High School was located in the "1909 Building" from 1909 until the spring of 2004. The school moved into its new building in the fall of 2004 after the building was converted from the Charles S. Pierce Middle School. The Copeland family donated money for a beautiful fieldhouse and a new turf playing field. The athletic teams compete in the Bay State League. Famous alumni include the Chicago Cubs pitcher Rich Hill; Al Hassan, a baseball player for the Duke Blue Devils; and William Rutecki.
Clubs and Organizations
There are over thirty clubs at Milton High, including two publications, an outdoors club, and various cultural clubs. The drama program puts on several shows a year in the new auditorium with fantastic actors, musicians and sets/costumes.
Sports
Sports are very popular and there are nearly twenty different sports to choose from over three seasons. The teams compete in the Bay State League. Last winter the girls hockey team came in second in the state in division 2. The recent budget crisis threatened to cut sports, but the athletes and their parents rallied and promised to do fund raisers and deal with a slight fee increase and sports were saved. There is also an Ultimate Frisbee team that plays year round that is free to join.
Music
There is a very large music program with several hundred participants. Last spring they went to Williamsburg, VA to compete in a Heritage Music Festival and have fun at Busch Gardens. The Concert Band, the Orchestra, the Jazz Ensemble, Mixed Chorus, and Girls Chorus performed at two high schools in the Williamsburg area. They won three out of five individual awards, the Band and Orchestra Sweepstakes awards and the Overall Award. There are also many after school groups that perform from time to time throughout the year. They include: Jazz Ensemble 1 and 2, several string quartets, and many choruses such as the gospel chorus.
