Image tagging for Image:Noteworthy Composer-1.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Noteworthy Composer-1.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Noteworthy Composer-2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Noteworthy Composer-2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Editor review

Thanks for your question at my editor review, I've replied there. Was there a more specific subject you were asking about? (Also, I numbered and de-bolded the question you wrote to match the standard formatting. If you disagree with this change, please feel free to reverse it.) A tag has been placed on Boulan, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:49, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I nominated it for several reasons, all of which I mentioned at Wikipedia:Stub_types_for_deletion/Log/2007/October/20: It's incorrectly/ambiguously named, one of the two categories has no permanent category parent, and size is of concern - though, as you pointed out, that might be fixable. To sum it up, the math-comp-stub is probably fixable fairly easily, the bio-stub is just unnecessary and more of a problem in other ways. Note that, even for stubs which are connected closely with wikiprojects, such matters as naming and size still matter for stubs, which is why we have a proposal process (basically, the reason is that stubs aren't just used within a wikiproject, but by editors across Wikipedia, so its important to keep all of them as consistent across the whole of Wikipedia as possible - if you want WP-specific templates, then talk page banner templates like {{WPBeatles}} are usually far more useful). Grutness...wha? 01:04, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Math ratings

Both priority and importance work for the name of that parameter. The template itself always says "priority" on the talk page, so using that for the name of the field makes sense. — Carl (CBM · talk) 01:44, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Itestlogo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Itestlogo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Boulan bronco.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Boulan bronco.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:56, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Furbish Lousewort

I'm not clear about why you rejected my article on the Furbish lousewort. You said I provide insufficient context, but it's a plant. I say what it looks like, where it's found, it's taxonomy, that's it's endangered, when it was described. There's more you can say about it, but I reckon it's enough for a start. That's what's great about Wikipedia, the article can start out like that and more folk will come along and add more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.241.227.113 (talk) 04:13, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Repost of Jake Milliman

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Jake Milliman, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Jake Milliman was previously deleted as a result of an articles for deletion (or another XfD)

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Jake Milliman, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Math Project Competitions

Do you think that Sam Vandervelde is notable enough to have an article? He IS currently running the Mandelbrot competition, so... Also, do you think that Richard Ruscyzk and Sandor Lehoczky are notable enough? Please petition this or something: David Eppstein wants to delete all three of these articles, essentially. On his talk page. He says that he doesn't think any of them are notable enough to have a page.

Templates for WP math

When tagging articles for the math project, please use {{maths rating}}, not {{WikiProject Mathematics}}. That latter template was created without any approval by the project, and its fate isn't certain. Also, please note we already have a list of mathematics articles that includes all math articles. So the only reason to place {{maths rating}} is to assign quality, importance, and field to the article in question. Even if you don't know exactly the right rating, putting in anything reasonable is better than leaving them blank. If they are blank, someone else has to fill them in, which takes editing time that is better spent elsewhere. You had no way to know all this; please don't take it as a personal criticism. It's just a different system than other wikiprojects use. — Carl (CBM · talk) 21:40, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

The list of math articles is automatically maintained by a bot. Regular users like you and I only need to categorize the article appropriately, and the bot will add it to the list. — Carl (CBM · talk) 23:56, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

No Peter, I did not do 1, 2, or 3. Just like I remembered you. I just got an account on Wikipedia a few days ago. When Alice was going through her account, I saw your user name on her talk page a lot, so I asked who it was, she told me it was you. Then I tracked you down, made sure it was you, and sure enough the old math genius, left us to go to Omaha, punctuation freak was Nousernamesleft. Also, your sig, Temperal was a big give away, for I have your e-mail address on my contacts (archivetemperal). Now Peter, since you know about 50000000000000000000 times more about geometry than I do (you bragged about that in your last message, thank you very much), know much about how things role around here, I will give you math problems to solve (from my homework) and ask your opinion and advice on what to do here. I am an amateur, you are an expert. Help me please. Thank you.--TheDoctor80 (talk) 22:52, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Refimprove on Fermat's Last Theorem

On November 23 you put a "refimprove" tag on Fermat's Last Theorem. Are there any particular statements in there that you felt were likely to be challenged and may need citations, and if so, could you care to indicate what they were? Basically everything concerning the history and the mathematical content is related by several of the references cited at the end, and it would only be annoying to the reader if we attached something like [3][4][7] to basically every other sentence.  --Lambiam 10:35, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I consider your distortion of the facts a personal attack too.

"Why don't you take it to Wikipedia:Requests for mediation and see what they think? Temperaltalk and matrix? 22:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)"

This will become necessary if you and your friend continue to make accusations and distortion of the facts without offering any explanations or proofs of what you're saying.

My advice to you is that next time before you accuse some one of making personal attack on another user, you should first initiate a conversation and politely tell the person what you think and allow the person to have a chance to respond.

I don't know where you are from. The spirit of the American principles is that the burden of proof lies the one who makes the accusation.

"If you want diffs, here you go.

Response: I don't understand why based on this, you accused me of attacking him but did not accuse him of attacking me. You need to elaborate. You also need to read the entire history of this matter on the discussion page on P vs NP in detail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:P_%3D_NP_problem

"If you don't stop your continual rudeness, I will bring this to the Mediation Committee."

Response: Do whatever you want.

Adminship

At admin coaching, you posted: I'm actually not extremely interested in becoming an administrator, but I would like to know how the sysop tools work, and training would help.

Why would you like to know how the sysop tools work? (reply on my talk page please) The Transhumanist 06:09, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Blackbird

I'm really sorry and can see that you spent a long time going through the Blackbird article, but I reverted your decapitalization of the species name. As a species name for a bird, it is always capitalized. The MOS says that individual Wikiprojects decide how their coverage capitalizes species, and WP:Birds subheading 9 says that all bird species names are to be capitalized. Sorry. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 21:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

It's always worth checking similar articles before making wholesale revision, especially when the article has already passed GA. All 10,000 bird articles are fully capped. We have all done something similar - I fully capped the name of an Italian opera not realising that that the normal style doesn't apply to Italian (:. Hope this helps, Jimfbleak (talk) 07:08, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

An article which you started, or significantly expanded, Henri Brocard, was selected for DYK!

Updated DYK query On January 1, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Henri Brocard, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thanks for your contributions! Nishkid64 (talk) 02:51, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Mathcounts

The article Mathcounts you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Mathcounts for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a reassessment.

I have given some suggestions at Talk:Mathcounts#Failed "good article" nomination. Good luck! King of ♠ 22:05, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Mathcounts is now a GA

Congratulations! The article has addressed all issues that were brought in its last nomination, I can not see a reason why it can not be promoted to GA now. One note though, I'd prefer to see some more pictures in this article to improve its visual attractiveness.I hope now you would consider reviewing an article nominated for GA status and help with the backlog on Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Images mathcounts kevin chen.gif.
