Rob Reid (born in Toronto, Ontario on January 22, 1955) is a Victoria, British Columbia athlete, community activist, entrepreneur and mayoral candidate.

Rob received a combined Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Rob lived in Calgary, Alberta for several years during which he worked with the Calgary chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada as a counselor. In the same period, Rob opened The Tech Shop Running Store for the Forzani Group.

Athletics

Rob is a four time Calgary Marathon winner (1980, 1981, 1982, 1984).

Community Activism

Rob is the founder of the Runners of Compassion Society, a local/global non-profit. A central program of Runners of Compassion is the Shoes For Youth Program which has provided sports shoes to hundreds of children in the region. Rob is a member of the United Way Cabinet (2005 – present) and the United Way Leadership Presentation Chair. He has served on the Telus Community Board 2007-2008 and is a volunteer with the Victoria Community Council. Rob was the Victoria Chairperson for 2005 Terry Fox television special recorded at Clover Point, Victoria, BC. Rob presented the City of Victoria with a statute of Terry Fox in 2005. Rob is a volunteer with the Terry Fox Foundation and is the race coordinator of the following local charity running events: the Michael Dunahee Run and the St Patrick’s Run for Big Brothers and Sisters. Rob has been awarded the following community awards:

  • Lieutenant-Governor Iona Campagnolo and Premier Gordon Campbell presented Rob with the British Columbia Achievement Foundation's Community Achievement Award in 2006[1]
  • Paul Harris Rotary Club Award – 2006
  • Kiwanis Distinguished Service Sports Award - 2005

Entrepreneurship

Rob moved to Victoria in 1988 and has become a leading figure in the local business community. He opened Frontrunners Victoria Ltd. in 1988. He is a co-owner of Frontrunners Nanaimo (2000), and Frontrunners Langford (2005). He subsequently opened the New Balance store (2003) and the Bella store (2006). Rob has been a board member of the Royal Victoria Marathon for 20 years and Race Director for 11 years. Rob has received the following business awards:

  • Community Sports Person Runner Up – CFAX Community Awards
  • Business Person of the Year – 2004 – Victoria Chamber of Commerce
  • Small Business Award – 2003 – Victoria Chamber of Commerce

Rob is married to Joan Geber and they have two sons, Nathan (17) and Keegan (14).
