Danielle Jones (née Amy Mitchell) is a fictional character in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. She is played by Lauren Crace.[1]

Character creation

It was reported on 19 July 2008 that a new character, Danielle, would be introduced to EastEnders as the love interest of fellow new character Callum Monks (played by Elliott Jordan). The character has been described as a "naive blonde [...] easily taken in by Callum's smooth patter".[1]

Nineteen-year-old Danielle arrived in Walford with "just a suitcase and a dream of a new life", and got a job on Stacey Branning's market stall.[1]

The role of Danielle was given to unknown actress Lauren Crace, who commented: "I’m thrilled. It’s a great first role and I just can’t wait to see what is in store." EastEnders executive producer, Diederick Santer commented: "Lauren is a real find — a lovely, talented and hugely watchable actress."[1]

Miles Hosken, a former mayor of Telford, welcomed the choice to give Danielle a Telford background.[2]

Storylines

Arrival

Danielle arrived in Walford from Telford on August 18 2008, looking for a job. She asked Stacey Branning if she had any jobs going on the stall, but a stressed out Stacey said no. She later tried the café, but Ian wasn't in need of any more staff, so Danielle then tried The Queen Vic but was turned down by Roxy Slater after admitting that she had no experience of working behind a bar. However, later on whilst Stacey's mum Jean Slater was covering for Stacey, Danielle offered to help. Jean found a price list in among Stacey's stock and sold the clothes at those prices, but later realised that those were the prices Stacey had bought the clothes at in the first place. Stacey sent Jean home and told Danielle to help her sort out the mess. Later on, Stacey decided to give Danielle a job and told her to be at the stall by 8 o'clock the next morning. Later, in the Vic, Danielle toasted to Stacey for her first friendship formed in Walford.

On August 22 2008, Stacey found out that Danielle was having trouble sleeping in the area she was living in. So, she offered her the spare room at the Slater's home whilst she was living with Bradley at Dot's house.

She has recently shown interest in fellow newcomer, Callum Monks, stating that he is "cute". On the September 4 2008, Callum asked Danielle whether she wanted to go to Bradley's birthday party with him, she agreed. At the party, Danielle and Callum danced together and Callum supposedly moved in to kiss Danielle but Callum tells her that she is nice but he had recently broke up with his girlfriend and that he still had feelings for her. This left her feeling heartbroken and she left R&R in tears. On September 12 2008, Bradley told Danielle that Callum was still interested in her, just to get him away from Stacey. After Tony's party, Danielle followed Callum out and told him that he was "gorgeous", they both shared a kiss with Stacey bitterly looking on.

On September 15 2008, it was revealed that she had been secretly feeding a stray cat she had named "Musty". But when Charlie Slater finds out about this, he was furious and plans to take it to the kennel, much to a devastated Danielle. But he decided to give it to Abi Branning as he saw her stroking it.

On September 18 2008, Danielle realised that Callum fancies Stacey and confronted him about it.

Family

During October 2008, Danielle became trapped in the middle of a feud between Ronnie Mitchell and Archie Mitchell via the cleaning jobs she had at The Queen Vic and R&R. Both tried to use Danielle to get information from the other, with Archie being the more aggressive. Eventually Danielle stole a letter to Ronnie from the father of her child, Joel, and gave it to Archie after Ronnie took out a prank played by Stacey on her. Ronnie concluded that Danielle was the thief and sacked Danielle and strongly berated her, causing Danielle to flee to the kitchen in the Slater household. Later Stacey attempted to get Danielle to come out of her room for a night out to cheer her up, to which a pendant is seen in Danielle's hands, open with a picture of Ronnie - Danielle is actually "Amy", Ronnie's thought to be dead daughter.[3]
