He took second place in the international [[Rostropovich Cello Competition]] and won the [[Young Concert Artists International Auditions]] (1978). Carr began playing at the age of five, and studied with [[Maurice Gendron]]. He also attended the Yehudi Menuhin School. He now plays on the 'Marquis de Corberon' [[Stradivarius|Stradivari]] cello, formerly played by [[Zara Nelsova]], and owned by the [[Royal Academy of Music]].
