Micah True (c. 1952 – March 2012) was an American ultrarunner from Boulder, Colorado, who gained fame as a central character in Christopher McDougall's best-selling book Born to Run.[1] The book chronicles his time in Mexico's Copper Canyon with the Tarahumara Indians, who taught him a new and better way to run.[2][3]
As reported by Laura Zuckerman of Reuters News Service: "In January, True wrote on his Facebook page: If I were to be remembered for anything at all, I would want that to be that I am/was authentic. No Mas. Run Free!"[4]
Death
On 27 March 2012, True went missing after heading out for a run in the Gila Wilderness, part of the Gila National Forest in southwestern New Mexico. He departed from the Wilderness Lodge in Gila, left his dog, took a water bottle and said he was going for a twelve mile run. It was assumed that he was heading north towards the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. His body was found around 6:00PM on 31 March 2012.[4] Cause of death is unknown at this point. [2][3]
