EmuTOS is a replacement for TOS (the operating system of the Atari ST and its successors), released as free software. It's mainly intended to be used with Atari emulators and clones, such as Hatari or Firebee. With it, the use of the old, proprietary TOS versions can be avoided, as they are usually difficult to obtain.

Features and compatibility

Unlike original TOS versions, latest EmuTOS can work (sometimes with limited HW support) on all Atari hardware[1], and its latest version has support for features[2] lacking from older TOS versions: ColdFire CPU, IDE, (VFAT compatible) FAT16 support and emulators' "Native Features"[3] support.

By design, EmuTOS lacks support for some deprecated OS functions like line-A[4], and there are also some other differences on non-documented OS features. Because of this, some old demos and games don't work with it[5].

EmuTOS doesn't yet have support for Falcon sound matrix or DSP[6], nor VDI graphics support for its 8-bit and 16-bit resolutions. Because of this, most Atari Falcon specific games, demos and applications don't work with it[7].
