David Donaldson MacKinnon (born 23 May 1956 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former professional football player who is best known for his time with Rangers.
He joined Rangers from Partick Thistle for £30,000 in May 1982. MacKinnon made his top team debut against Motherwell on the 4 September 1982, aged 26. The game ended in as a 2-2 draw[2]
The book, ‘Rangers – Player by Player’ (written by Bob Ferrier and Robert McElroy) said of MacKinnon; “Dave was a wholehearted full-back who had pace and was addicted to storming forward to use a powerful shot.” MacKinnon departed Ibrox after the arrival of Graeme Souness, moving to Airdrie in 1986. He scored the Division 2 promotion clinching penalty kick for Kilmarnock against Cowdenbeath on the final day of the 1989-90 season.
After retirement he became general manager at Kilmarnock and chief executive at Dundee. MacKinnon was also a reporter for Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland during the late 1990s. David was Chief Executive at 110sport Group but left to set up a new management and events company, sport pathways in April 2011. David is also the founder and owner of college scholarship company college sport usa www.collegesportusa.com
