Acidocella is a genus in the phylum Proteobacteria (Bacteria).[1] Its members are acidophilic.
Etymology
The name Acidocella derives from New Latin acidum (from Latin acidus, sour), an acid; Latin cella, a store-room, a chamber and, in biology, a cell; giving Acidocella, an acid (-requiring) cell.[2]
Species
The genus contains 3 species (including basonyms and synonyms), namely[2]
- A. aluminiidurans ( Kimoto et al. 2010, ; New Latin noun aluminium (from Latin noun alumen, alum), aluminium; Latin participle adjective durans, enduring, being insensible; New Latin participle adjective aluminiidurans, aluminium-tolerant.)[3]
- A. aminolytica ( (Kishimoto et al. 1994) Kishimoto et al. 1996, ; New Latin noun aminum, amine; New Latin feminine gender adjective lytica (from Greek feminine gender adjective lutikē), able to loose, able to dissolve; New Latin feminine gender adjective aminolytica, amine dissolving.), formerly a member of the genus Acidiphilium[4]
- A. facilis ( (Wichlacz et al. 1986) Kishimoto et al. 1996, (Type species of the genus).; Latin feminine gender adjective facilis, easy, without difficulty, quick, with respect to growth.), formerly a member of the genus Acidiphilium[4]
