David Donaldson MacKinnon (born 23 May 1956 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former professional football player who is best known for his time with Rangers.
He joined Rangers from Partick Thistle for £30,000 in May 1982. MacKinnon made his top team debut against Motherwell on the 4 September 1982, aged 26. The game ended in as a 2-2 draw[2]
The book, ‘Rangers – Player by Player’ (written by Bob Ferrier and Robert McElroy) said of MacKinnon; “Dave was a wholehearted full-back who had pace and was addicted to storming forward to use a powerful shot.” MacKinnon departed Ibrox after the arrival of Graeme Souness, moving to Airdrie in 1986. He scored the Division 2 promotion clinching penalty kick for Kilmarnock against Cowdenbeath on the final day of the 1989-90 season.
After retirement he became general manager at Kilmarnock and chief executive at Dundee. MacKinnon was also a reporter for Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland during the late 1990s. In 2014 Mackinnon became Media and Communications Director at SPFL Club Hamilton Accies and is also co presenter at Eklipse Sports radio
