Sefik Birkiye is a Turkish architect known for his many iconic buildings in the city of Brussels.[1] He is the founder of Vizzion Architects, a company which has been contributing to Brussels's urban environment since 1979, as well as the founder of Vizzion Europe, a more internationally-focused team.[2] Birkiye has won the highly acclaimed MIPIM Award twice: in 1998 for designing Le Jardin des Fonderies appartment building, and in 2000 for desigining the Green Island office complex.[3]
Early life and education
Birkiye was born in Ankara in 1954. At the age of 17, he moved to Brussels in order to pursue his academic interests. In 1978, he graduated in architecture from La Cambre School of Architecture. In 1981, he went to study at University of Louvain where he obtained a master's degree in town planning.[2]
