Transmission is a free, lightweight BitTorrent client. It features a simple, intuitive interface on top on an efficient, cross-platform back-end.

Transmission is open source (MIT License) and runs on Mac OS X (Cocoa interface), Linux/NetBSD/FreeBSD/OpenBSD (GTK+ interface) and BeOS/ZETA (native interface).

Transmission also uses a smaller amount of system resources than many other BitTorrent clients (such as Azureus).

Criticism

Currently, Transmission does not strictly adhere to the complete BitTorrent specification. Its behaviour has lead to the client being banned from some private trackers. There has been a heated discussion regarding the matter on the Transmission forum about whether or not it is really a problem. [1]
