Makoto Wada (和田誠, Wada Makoto)(10 April 1936 – 7 October 2019) was a Japanese illustrator, essayist and film director.

After graduating Tama Art University, he established himself as a graphic designer. As an illustrator, he drew many cartoons and caricatures for Shinichi Hoshi and Haruki Murakami.

Being a passionate film fan, he started his career as a film director in 1984. He won the award for best director at the 31st Blue Ribbon Awards for Kaitō Ruby.[1]

Since 1972, Wada has been married to Remi Hirano, the granddaughter of Henry Pike Bowie. Their son, Sho Wada, is the guitarist and vocalist of Triceratops. He died on Oct.7.2019 at the hospital in Tokyo.He was 83 years old.Couse of death was pneumonia. [2]
