Blue Ribbon Award ( Japanese ブ ル ー リ ボ ン 賞 Burū Ribon Shō ) is a Japanese film award that has been awarded since 1950. The prize is awarded in seven different categories every February in Tokyo . In connection with a corruption scandal ( 黒 い 霧 事件 ), the award was temporarily abolished between 1967 and 1975. The Blue Ribbon Award was first under the patronage of six major daily newspapers ( Yomiuri Shimbun , Asahi Shimbun , Mainichi Shimbun , Sankei Shimbun , Tōkyō Shimbun and Nihon Keizai Shimbun ). The film award is currently under the patronage of seven sports newspapers, whose editors responsible for the film section form the selection committee.
