Yōko Tsukasa
Yōko Tsukasa ( Japanese 司 葉子 Tsukasa Yōko ; born August 20, 1934 in Tottori Prefecture ) is a Japanese actress .
Life
Yōko Tsukasa was born in Tottori Prefecture in 1934. She began her acting career in 1955 at the age of 21 in a role in Tenka taihei . In the same year she got her first major role in Meoto zenzai .
Her internationally best-known film appearance had Tsukasa in 1960 as Ayako Miwa on the side of Setsuko Hara and Mariko Okada in Ozu Yasujirō's drama Late Autumn . In 1961 she played the role of Nui in Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo - The Bodyguard , which also made her famous outside of Japan. In the same year, Tsukasa was also seen as Noriko in The Autumn of the Kohayagawa Family , also a film by Ozu Yasujirō.
In 1966, Tsukasa played the leading role of Shintani Hana in Noboru Nakamura's drama Kinokawa, which was particularly well-known in Japan . In the following year she received several awards for her acting performance, including in 1967 the Blue Ribbon Award for best actress .
In the following years, Yoko Tsukasa appeared in several dozen film and television productions. In 1971 she took on a leading role in the Japanese television series Daichūshingura . One of the most famous films of her later career is the catastrophe film World Catastrophe 1999? - The prophecy of Nostradamus from 1974. Tsukasa played her last film role so far in 2003 in Fukumimi . However, to this day she is active as an actress in television series. For her services to the film scene in her country, Tsukasa has received several awards from the Japanese government.
