action
Shigeru was born deaf. He has a part-time job in the garbage collection. His girlfriend Takako shares his fate - she is also deaf. During his normal route with the garbage truck, Shigeru discovers a broken surfboard in a garbage heap. Shigeru takes it with him and resolves to teach himself to surf.
He stubbornly pursues his goal, laughed at first, but gets better and better. In the end, his disability repeatedly becomes his undoing, for example when taking part in a surf championship to which he was encouraged by his mentor (owner of the surf shop). Since he does not hear when he is called at the surf championship, he is disqualified.
When he took part in a championship again, he even won a trophy. A little later Shigeru is practicing on the beach again. When Takako comes to visit him, all she finds is the surfboard. Surfing ultimately cost him his life.
