Joe Hisaishi ( Japanese 久 石 譲 , Hisaishi Jō , real name: 藤澤 守 , Fujisawa Mamoru ; born December 6, 1950 in Nakano ) is a Japanese composer, pianist, conductor, author and director. He became internationally known for his music for the films by Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano .

Career

Hisaishi composed his first pieces while studying at the Kunitachi Music Academy . He was influenced by artists such as Philip Glass and Erik Satie . From 1974 he composed the music for the anime series Sasuga no Sarutobi and Futari Taka . In 1982 he released his first album with a minimalist sound, later more albums followed.

In 1983 Hisaishi was commissioned by his label to compose "Image music" for the film Nausicaä from the Valley of the Wind . Such is not part of the film's soundtrack, but is marketed to it. When Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata , who were responsible for the production of the film, heard Joe Hisaishia's music, he was commissioned to write the symphonic score for Nausicaä . Since then he has composed the music for all of Miyazaki's other films. In 1988 Hisaishi founded his label Wonder Land Ind., Since 1991 he has also worked with the director Takeshi Kitano .

In Hisaishi's hometown, the 1998 Winter Olympics opened to his music. Today Hisaishi leads the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra .

In 2010, Hisaishi received an appointment from his alma mater, where he gave his inaugural lecture on April 28 that year.

In addition to his musical activities, Joe Hisaishi wrote two books, including a novel.
