Yōichi Higashi

Yōichi Higashi ( Japanese 東 陽 一 , Higashi Yōichi ; born November 14, 1934 in Wakayama Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter .

From 1952 to 1962 he studied literature at Waseda University and went into the film business after completing his studies. In 1965 he published his first short film and made his feature film debut with Yasashii Nippon jin in 1971 . His subsequent films, such as Sādo, attracted a lot of attention in Japan and won numerous awards. The village of my dreams was created in 1996 , for which he received a Silver Bear at the 1996 Berlinale .
