Van Earl Wright

Van Earl Wright is an American sportscaster with over 20 years of national and local experience.

Right now (as of July 2006), he is the co-anchor of FSN Final Score, the nightly national sportscast on Fox Sports Net. He formerly served as co-host of the Morning Extravaganza on Fox Sports Radio, before being removed from that position in February, 2006 due to a severe decline in ratings and also in the number of local affiliates that carried the show. His relationship with FSN dates back to Final Score's predecessor show, National Sports Report, as well as the Southern California Sports Report, which is also no longer on air.

Wright is a former anchor at both CNN Headline News and CNN/Sports Illustrated, which put together reflects the longest tenure of his career. He has also worked at WDIV, the NBC television affiliate in Detroit, Michigan, in addition to hosting a short-lived show on all sports radio station WDFN-AM in Detroit. Even though he was never shown on-air, Wright's voice became legendary during Headline News' sports segments during the 1980's at 19 and 49 minutes after the hour, especially for his elongated pronunciation of 'Los An-ge-leees'. Late in his tenure, he also routinely read his dry mandated sign-off ("I'm Van Earl Wright, CNN Headline Sports") with a series of increasingly bizarre inflections. His segment got note on-air by Larry King and Al Michaels, among others.

Wright, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, is known for a homespun delivery which reflects his Southern roots. His signature greeting is "Hellllooooo Everybody."

Wright provided the announcer's voice for Crystal Dynamics' Sega Saturn baseball video game "3D Baseball."
