HLN (also: Headline News , formerly: CNN Headline News , CNN2 ) is an American television station based in Atlanta . It was founded by Ted Turner as an offshoot of the world's first pure news broadcaster CNN and began broadcasting on January 1, 1982. HLN is operated by the Turner Broadcasting System , which has been a subsidiary of the Time Warner media group since 1996 . The main person in charge of the station is CNN Vice President Ken Jautz .

history

CNN was founded in 1980 by Ted Turner and was successful. In the following years, an offshoot was developed that went on air on January 1, 1982 as CNN2 . The concept of CNN2 was to summarize the news of the day in 30-minute blocks so that viewers could tune in at any time and were fully informed about the latest news from politics, sport, business and entertainment during this time. One year after it started broadcasting, CNN2 was renamed CNN Headline News . At the end of the 1990s, the live program was replaced by pre-recorded elements, so that a large part of the workforce could be saved.

In 2005 the program was completely redesigned. The continuous news reporting was partially replaced in the evening by moderated programs. This led to an increase in audience ratings, so that programs such as Showbiz Tonight , the court program Nancy Grace , the Glenn Beck Show and reruns of the CNN program Larry King Live were added to the program. The station's focus was on “light” topics such as celebrity coverage and interactive call-in programs. On December 15, 2008, the current HLN logo and the slogan “News and Views” were finally introduced and the previous station name, Headline News, was dropped in the on-air design.
