Paddy Quinn (Irish republican)

Patrick Quinn (born, 1962, Camlough, County Armagh, Northern Ireland) was a member of the Provisional IRA who took part in the 1981 Irish hunger strike.[1]

Early life

Quinn was born into a republican family and was the eldest son born to Paddy and Cathrine Quinn in Camlough, County Armagh. Quinn's father died when he was aged nine and as the head of the family his mother realied heavily on Paddy for both emotional support and to work their 32 acre farm in Armagh.

Active service

He was captured in the same IRA operation as Raymond McCreesh, who died in the hunger strike.[2]

1981 Hunger Strike

When he was close to death after 47 days, he was the first hunger striker whose family intervened. They helped to get him medical help to save his life.[3]
