What is Toby's real name?

Since information was posted here incorrectly indicating that Toby's real, given name is Tobias, and that information has now spread to several other websites, and is now believed by many to be his true given name, I would like to settle this matter once and for all.

Toby's given name is Kevin Michael McKeehan. To prove it conclusively, I have created two screen captures of publicly available records. These are public records available to anyone on the internet, but to minimize an invasion to Toby's privacy, I have blurred out information that doesn't need to be so readily accessed and isn't pertinent to settling this matter.

The first public record I would like to show is from Google maps, showing the location of True Artist Management, Toby's management offices, at 227 3rd Ave. North, Franklin, TN 37064.

The next screen capture I'd like to show is from the Williamson County, Tennessee property records, indicating the owner of 227 3rd Ave. North, Franklin, TN 37064 is listed as "MCKEEHAN KEVIN M". There is no indication of a Tobias there, on an official property record.

As I stated in a note on Dec. 23, I have known Toby for 16 years. I have had occasion to see his passport and other official documents. Never have I seen any document indicating his given name is anything but Kevin Michael McKeehan, and never have I seen the name Tobias on any official document. Further, I have never heard the name Tobias mentioned by any of his friends, family, or business associates.

I do hope this is conclusive to everyone's satisfaction.

"Kevin, Michael, McKeehan"... doesn't that sound like the 3 members of dcTalk? -- Apprentice Anakin 02:04, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it does sound a little coincidental, which still leaves me skeptical about “Kevin Michael McKeehan” being his real name. I'll have to check this out some time. --Wade A. Tisthammer 22:51, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Toby also made mention that his real name is Kevin Michael McKeehan during an interview in dc Talk's 1992 Nu Thang video. Maybe few people have seen that?

Capitalization and punctuation

Toby seems to like to confuse everyone with his name and punctuation on album releases! While one of the users here reverted "TobyMac" to "Tobymac", it seems to me like most people are using "tobyMac". tobyMac.com and Forefront records sites both use this spelling, even when it's at the beginning of a sentence! I wonder if he's changed it around over the years...

tobyMac puts a fresh, smooth coat of paint on his 2005 Grammy nominated and Dove Award winning album, WELCOME TO DIVERSE CITY, with the August 30 release of the full-length remix disc, RENOVATING DIVERSE CITY. ForeFrontRecords.com

Press releases are leaving out the arrow on the new album, Renovating->Diverse City, but Amazon and AllMusic have it listed with one. --J. J. 13:10, 2005 August 30 (UTC)

We probably should iron out which one to use, just for claritys sake. It does seem that tobyMac is the one currently in use. TheJosher 21:31, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is tobyMac.

This Christmas

Is This Christmas really an album or an EP? why is it a "mini-album"? Dan, the CowMan 21:02, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have only seen it listed as an actual album, but seeing as it contains just two track I personally wouldn't even call it an EP AlEX 17:23, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So its a single then. Dan, the CowMan 20:22, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If it has two tracks, doesn't that make it an LP? --Apprentice Anakin 02:09, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
No, generally an LP (long play) is a real album (8+ tracks). Two tracks makes a single, four an EP (Extended Play). Dan, the CowMan 04:52, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Toby's record label

Just to clear up some confusion about what toby's record is. Last time I checked, toby was with ForeFront Records. He is the PRESIDENT of Gotee, not an artist. For a complete list of Gotee artists, go to [1] or Gotee Records. For a complete list of ForeFront artists, go to [2] or ForeFront Records.

Yeah, but generally, on an EP, the songs are usually put onto an LP, right? This isn't. It's just a really short album, I think. 71.102.100.109 17:32, 21 August 2006 (UTC) St. AltaPunk[reply]

McKeehan family

For anyone who wants to know, here is a list of the McKeehan family as of April 12th, 2006.

                         Kevin Michael McKeehan(Toby) -Amanda McKeehan
                                               |
                              Truett, Moses, Marlee, Leo, Judah

Moses and Marlee are adopted. Judah was born on March 24th, 2006. Truett is featured on all of the tobyMac CD's as TruDog. For pictures of the whole family and many other people, go to toby's online scrapbook. Later!!! User:152.163.101.10 01:35, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

The Slam

The Slam is turning out to be quite a successful song. It has been featured on several commercials, part of the NCAA Championship Tournament, a Microsoft computer game, and it has won awards. This is just proof that Toby continues to make great music that can be appealing to anyone, while still being called "God music". If you want to hear this song, you can hear it on Toby's fourth album, "Welcome to Diverse City". It is the third track. You can also hear it remixed on the fifth tobyMac CD, "Renovating Diverse City". On there, it is the second track. Later!!! 205.188.116.135 18:42, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was used as the entrance music for a pro wrestler, and appeared in the ad campaign for Transporter 2 too. And it's a doggone catchy song too. :) MattSutton1 01:14, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The slam is now being used for commericals for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

"Atmosphere" has been on several car commercials, I think Hondas.Sorry about capitalization, dang Dell's messed up.

It was also used in commercial for the TV show "Prisonbreak", and on Sportcenter's "Ultimate Highlight". And yes, "Atmosphere" was used for car commercials. "Burn For You" was used for a commercial too, I believe for cinnamon gum. RoryS89 04:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)RoryS89[reply]

Filmography

Should I put the videos from Dc Talk in the filmography? I feel like I should, because he was in them, as Toby McKeehan. And, he referred to himself as tobyMac in the song "Jesus is Just Alright". I am going to go ahead and put them in, and anyone who wants to get rid of them can talk about it on this talk page. Later!!! 64.12.116.71 01:46, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

You know Toby?

In the original comment, I noticed you said that you have known him for 16 years. You lucky dog! What is he like? Just curious... -Soup

I would expect he'd be a pretty nice person. He likes to run and play sports. I wrote an email to him asking if I could use the image of the cover for the Welcome to Diverse City CD, and he said yes. So that shows how great of a guy he is. And plus, he likes God so much too. Later!!! Chili14 20:55, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet!

Chicken Soup 14:47, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I met him once, he's a very nice guy.

I've heard that he's a very humble guy, and that he doesn't act like a huge star at all. RoryS89 03:09, 31 May 2006 (UTC)RoryS89[reply]

To answer your question: Telling you what a person is like isn't a matter of one or two sentences, and honestly I'm not completely comfortable saying much. I want to be respectful of Toby's privacy. But I will say a few things. Unlike many well known people, Toby is pretty much what you see is what you get. There is not much difference between the public Toby and the private Toby.

I've always respected him for his integrity. That's one thing that first impressed me about him. He's also very loyal to his friends and family and will do just about anything for them. He's an easy going guy in general, and definitely likes to have fun. But he's also a very astute businessman and is not afraid to tell it like he sees it, even if that means someone gets scolded. If there is anything he's intimidated by, I've yet to see it. He's very ambitious and remarkably confident and competent at everything he gets involved in. More than anything else, there is no mistaking how much he loves his family and how much they mean to him.

The new album

The new album is coming out on December 5, 2006. I don't know what the name is or what any of the songs are called. You can see some video of them working on it at his website. Later!!! Chili14 (Talk) 21:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is tobyMac Mark Stuart's brother-in-law?

I read in the thank-you's of the Welcome to Diverse City CD that he thanked two people named "Mark and Kerri Stuart". He also said that photography was done by a lady called "Kerri McKeehan Stuart". This is possibly his sister, because I know he has one, along with an older brother. I wonder, is tobyMac's sister married to Mark Stuart from Audio Adrenaline? It would explain why they are on the same record label and why they co-headlined the Welcome to Diverse City tour.--Chili14 (Talk) 03:20, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Marc Stuart married Toby's sister.

The relationship between dc talk and Audio Adrenaline goes back to about 1990. The guys in Audio Adrenaline were attending college at Kentucky Christian College and were then in a band called A-180. Every summer the school put on an event called Summer in the Son [sic]. dc talk performed in concert at this festival in 1989 and 1990.

At the time of the 1990 show, A-180 had just recorded a somewhat flippant and goofy side project and called it Audio Adrenaline. The project contained two songs, "DC-10" and "My God". The guys had given a copy of this project to Toby McKeehan at Summer in the Son. They also contacted Nashville radio promoter Nancy Reece to pitch "My God" to Christian Rock radio. The single became a hit and landed on the national charts.

When the single appeared on the national charts, Toby suggested to his label, ForeFront, that they should sign Audio Adrenaline. A contract was offered and signed. The band members moved to Nashville in 1991 and recorded their first album for ForeFront.

Mark began dating Toby's sister Kerri a couple years later and they were married in January 1995.

A promo video filmed for (I think) a Winter WonderSlam tour (2004/5?) had Truett ("Tru-Dog") calling Mark Stuart "Uncle"...
Yeah, Gotee is very much a family record. Matt Hoopes of Relient K is married to the daughter of Mark Lee Townsend, former dc Talk guitarist and producer of all of Relient K's albums.RoryS89 04:31, 19 August 2006 (UTC)RoryS89[reply]

tobyMac's parents

I added the thing about toby's parents being divorced. I don't remember where I heard it, but if you listen to the lyrics of the first part of the song "Stories (Down to the Bottom)", you will figure out that his parents are divorced. Here is a lyrics site, so you can look it up for yourself:[3].--Chili14(Talk|Contribs) 06:10, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

why is toby's record label smaller than the one he owns?70.124.132.176 04:41, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There has got to be a Toby Mac photo somewhere online. Why not on here? --MrRandomGuy 03:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portable Sounds

Toby announces here that the new album will be called "Portable Sounds". Should I create a page for this?--Chilifix 00:10, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

6th Album?

Is the single really counted?
