Cherubi (チェリンボ, Cherinbo in original Japanese language versions) are one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards, and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Cherubi in the games, anime, and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon—untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments—and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]The name Cherubi is a portmanteaux of the words cherry, due to the fact that it is designed after a cherry, cherubim, due to cherries seen as a 'love' fruit, and ruby, from it's red color. Its Japanese name, Cherinbo, is a portmanteau of the English word cherry and the Japanese word for cherry (桜ん坊, sakuranbō).

In the trading card game

Cherubi apears at lv.7 in the card game with the moves sleep powder and leech seed.

Biological characteristics

Cherubi seem to resemble a pair of cherries. The two cherries both have faces, but only one of them seems to be the main Pokémon (compare with Weezing). The larger of the cherries is capable of walking using its small stubby feet, which it keeps upon evolution. It is also capable of facial expressions, unlike the smaller cherry, which seems to be in a constant state of dormancy. The larger cherry has a thin burgundy stripe running down the forehead. The smaller cherry does not have feet and makes it hard for the bigger one to balance. The two cherries are joined by stems connected to a pair of large green leaves.

The smaller cherry holds the nutrients necessary for Cherubi to evolve. When Cherubi are close to evolution, the smaller cherry begins to wilt. This smaller cherry is also very sweet and delicious, due to the large quantities of nutrients it contains. Both cherries ripen and redden in the sunlight, which may make the smaller cherry even more delicious.

In the video games

Cherubi can be found in Sweet Honey Trees in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, using the Honey item, which comes from Combee after it battles. There is a chance that they may hold Miracle Seed.

Cherubi is used by Sinnoh Gym Leader Gardenia.

Cherubi's strong points are its Special Attack and Special Defense. Its ability, Chlorophyll, raises its speed in strong sunlight.

In the anime

A weak Cherubi was the first Pokemon used by Gardenia in her battle with Ash. Cherubi was provably weak due to the fact that it was easily defeated by Ash's Turtwig.
