St. Augustine High School Is a public high school In Saint Augustine, Florida in St. Johns county. Its students are grades 9 through 12. SAHS is home to a notable athletics department and performing arts department.

Mascot

The SAHS mascot is the Yellow Jacket. Mascot's Name Is Buzz!

Varsity Football

The St. Augustine High School football team was the 2005 class 3A champions in varsity football, beating Booker High School from Sarasota, Florida with a score of St. Augustine High School 31 and Sarasota Bookers' 15. They are one of only two teams to finish and win its respective bracket undefeated {the other being the Lakeland Dreadnaughts}. This marks the first time in school history that the team had won a State Championship.

One notable alumnus of SAHS is Scott Player of the Arizona Cardinals

Performing and Visual Arts

St.Augustine High School is also known as the Center of the Arts (Also known as SJCCA, or St. Johns County Center of the Arts) high school for St. Johns county. It features Band, Chorus, Dance, Guitar, Theater, and Visual Arts. It is currently under the direction of Mr. Jeff Dodd

Band

The St. Augustine High School Yellow Jacket marching band Is currently under the direction of Mrs.Laura Beard and Mr. Douglas Beard. They have been directing the Band department for one year. In the 2005-2006 school year it was under the direction of Mr. Steven Knob. Before that the Band was under the direction of Mr. Dewey Dodds for 18 years until the 2005-2006 season. For the 2006 season they came in 7th place at the Florida Marching Band Coalition {FMBC} preliminaries In St.Petersburg,Florida. The Band program consists of many different classes Including Wind Ensemble,Concert Band,Jazz,and multiple percussion classes

Chorus

The Chorus of SAHS is run by Mr. Jeff Dodd. Starting in the 2007-2008 school year, 4 classes developed in the program. Treble Chorus, Concert Chorus, SAHS Singers and Chamber Singers. In addition, there are afterschool programs that include Masters Track, Show Choir, and Madrigal Singers. The Chorus department of SJCCA is also responsible for the school musical. Some of the past achievements of the chorus have been performing in the Disney Candlelight service in Epcot, and receiving state Superiors and Excellents.

Student Publications

There are two student produced publications at SAHS. The Jacket Journal: the official school newspaper, is created by students under the direction of English Teacher Scott Benyacko. Students write about events pertinent to the school in The Jacket Journal

The second student produced publication is not school sponsored and is known as The Monthly Seth. It is unclear at this time who produces The Seth. The student writers go by the names of "Joseph McPherson," "Seth McPherson," and "Miles Rerref." The Monthly Seth publishes articles relating to almost anything, as the paper's unofficial motto is "for intelligence, laughter, and the first amendment."
