Location of the municipality of Ridderkerk

Bolnes is a village in the municipality of Ridderkerk, South Holland, the Netherlands. In 2004, 7300 people lived in Bolnes. Shipbuilding used to be the main industry, attracting migrant workers from Spain in the 1960's, but it went in decline in the 1970's and closed down altogether in 1986. It has lost much of its character as a working class village alongside on the south bank of the 'Nieuwe Maas' (New Meuse); apart from some shops there is little employment in the village itself. Many people commute to Ridderkerk, Rotterdam or Dordrecht.
