Sweet and sour chicken or sweet sour chicken is an American Chinese cuisine dish or appetizer. The chicken are essentially white meat chicken tenders deep-fried in batter. Unlike sweet and sour pork, this dish does not have a Chinese cuisine counterpart in the Far East. It is almost exclusive to North America, although it may sometimes be found in restaurants in East and Southeast Asia in an essentially identical version.
With sauce
It is generally served with sweet and sour sauce, sometimes topped off with pineapples, green peppers, and cherries. The chicken is often soaked in the sauce.
Without sauce
When it is not soaked in the sauce, the dish is sometimes referred to simply as chicken fingers, with sauces served on the side. Standalone sweet and sour sauce is often interchangeable with duck sauce due to their similar taste.
