Bot Help

With your experience, I thought you might be able to create as bot (or possibly two). Please tell me if you could and I will give you more details. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 11:33, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure I could help. I'm very familiar with Python wikipedia bot and AWB software. What exactly do you have in mind?   jj137 (talk) 20:52, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking about a different type of anti-vandalism bot, one that removed gibberish from pages (I'm sure there's a code for that somehow...). My other idea was a bot that patrolled userpages for vandalism, which is something that ClueBot and VOA Bot II both do not do. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 21:22, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm leaning towards Python, and think the user vandal bot would be the best to go. I am pretty sure there is find a way to make it that only other users are counted. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 23:28, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mabye PHP would work? STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 01:36, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really have a lot of time working with PHP. I could try and learn it, though. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 11:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Upon further review, I think it would be easy to modify ClueBot's PHP source code to create a bot that monitors the userspace for vandalism. I'll create a userpage and a RFBA soon. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 11:50, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that would be what the page would be for. I may need help with the PHP code, though. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 11:00, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

Someone wanted to nominate me for Admin! So I'm going to run right now - No just kidding, (someone did nominate me, but I'm not running). NOT TILL MARCH :). - Milk's Favorite Cookie 21:24, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's good news to hear! There's someone you know will support you when you run :)   jj137 (talk) 01:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep :). I told him you were already nominating me - he said he will co-nominate me instead. :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:32, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - I was really surprised that Stormtracker's didn't pass. He must have had 10 co-noms. Also, the bot think does not seem to be moving forward. And is it required (I'm pretty sure it is) that the title be bold in the article, like the first time it appears in the first sentence? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:36, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - great editor! Just asking the above because well, a bot should be created to simply bold the title. Oreobot does seem to be moving forward BTW. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:41, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And oh yeah, I was checking my mail, and if you have Yahoo Beta - I suggest you don't check it. Or close you eyes when looking at the front page, and click "Inbox" without seeing it. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:48, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you see the deleted text of Shrewsbury High School (the one in Massachusetts)? I didn't make the article, but it was deleted as nonsense, and the school exists, so I don't see a reason for that. Just post the text in my sandbox. (Not going to have you email it to me). Thanks. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:59, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - guess it was total nonsense. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 19:54, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nope still the error :(. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 20:49, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I think I have a way to make it work. Is Friday around 3:30 eastern a good draft time for you? Pretty sure you are in eastern time. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 20:55, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fantasy Baseball

CBS Sportsline is up and running and the description is....

"A league for wikipedians that have organized it"

Apparently everyone EXCEPT us has joined it. I'll create another one.

ALSO! ESPN.COM OPENS UP ON THE 17th! MAYBE WE COULD TRY THAT IF SPORTSLINE DOESN'T WORK! HPJoker Leave me a message 00:29, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Before I set it up, anyone know the difference between Standard Rotisserie, 5X5 Rotisserie, Roto Plus, and Weekly Head to Head? Those are the different types of scoring options on CBS Sportsline. Should I do Head-to-head, like it was set up on stormtracker's league? HPJoker HPJoker Leave me a message 01:10, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, whats a good draft date?
Go cbssportsline.com/fantasy, click play fantasy baseball, look below and click FREE FANTASY BASEBALL. After you've clicked that, click the yellow PLAY NOW button, then enter in you're team name (you're wikipedia name?). After you've entered in your team name, scroll down. You'll see a link that says Search for League by Name. Click that and search for Boston Red Sox Wikiproject. Description is A league for me, jj137, Stormtracker94, and Milk's Favorite Cookie. You should be there then! It's a private league so let me know if you can't find it.
I KNOW WHY YOU COULDN'T GET IN! YOU DIDN'T HAVE A PLAYER NAME! HPJoker Leave me a message 02:02, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whats a draft date that will work for you? I can't create the league until I know a date. HPJoker Leave me a message 02:23, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, I need a draft date. Remember it doesn't have to be this weekend. I'm available all day tomorrow and Milk doesn't care. Do you have an IM or e-mail I can send the password too? You'll need to give it to me directly because the E-mail this user thing in the toolbox doesn't work for me. HPJoker Leave me a message 03:13, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Won't send the e-mail. Do you have an IM? HPJoker Leave me a message 03:16, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't. Whats your e-mail? HPJoker Leave me a message 03:18, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ain't working. How bout this. e-mail me at silentrepublican (at) aol.com
Thats a spam e-mail of mine. I created it a while ago for things like this. HPJoker Leave me a message 03:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm here all day if you want to talk about it. HPJoker Leave me a message 17:42, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sportsline works fine for me, I'm not sure if it's your computer or just a server error in your area. Also, the link to ClueBot's PHP code is located here. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 20:59, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess so. I'll create it soon. What will the draft time be? STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 21:02, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It says "select a web server." I'm not sure which one to use. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 21:51, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It says I don't, but I'm not sure how to open the program after trying not to use a web server. (I don't see Firefox listed, I see things like Apache or CGI.) STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 21:59, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Triple" Copyvio (or so I think)

  1. Uno: Admission Possible =[1]
  2. Dos: Audioscape =[2]
  3. Tres: Phillip Silverstone =[[3]]

Looks like sometimes the words have been switched around just a little but other than that... They are all AFD's and while voting and looking over the article I found they were all copyvio's. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 21:26, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I'll just let them be deleted through AFD, since it looks like they will be. I don't know if they have enough word-for-word content to be considered a blatant copyvio and be speedy deleted. (Sorry, I'm no expert on that sort of situation.)   jj137 (talk) 21:47, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright: I got it to work. Is this[4] the league? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 21:52, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We need 10 people - or the league... "...will be abandoned and you will have to create a new one...". Right now, we have four. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 21:58, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whose league are we using? Draft time for my league is at 2/23/08 1PM Eastern Time. So we can see how some of the players do in Spring. HPJoker Leave me a message 22:04, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't draft on Friday at 1. More like after 3 is when I can draft. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 22:20, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Friday at or after 7 PM ET for me. Thats 5 PM for me. HPJoker Leave me a message 22:32, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MORE fantasy baseball

So, do I join your league? Are the 3 people in it you, Milk's Favorite Cookie, and Stormtracker94? HPJoker Leave me a message 01:03, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here. Should I leave mine and join yours? I like ESPN better because it has more options. I can have a league for 4 people. I also experienced MAJOR lag in a mock draft on sportsline today. I wanted Billy Wagner and ended up with Gil Meche after hitting Billy Wagner's Draft twice but nothing happened. If this league doesn't work out I can check out ESPN and try out that free league option that Stormtracker found. Is there one for baseball? There should be. I think I might scout Yahoo. So, should I leave my league and join yours? HPJoker Leave me a message 02:41, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to make an ESPN league next week at some point incase CBS doesn't work out, like the draft doesn't work out or something. I can create a league on there so we can draft with four people. HPJoker Leave me a message 04:16, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most likely (Yes). Hopefully I can get to know you guys (especially Stormtracker) a bit better in a more playful kind of way instead of this serious wiki way. Would you follow me if CBS didn't work to ESPN? IT'S FREE AND MOCK DRAFTS BEGIN February 11th. HPJoker Leave me a message 04:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for saying yes to my ESPN invite. Talk to your friends. I'm asking an XM DJ right now, and he's saying no! I'll help you ask other people in the project. HPJoker Leave me a message 20:17, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I meant for the CBS league, but I'll tell Stormtracker and milk about the ESPN thing. I can set-up the ESPN league. Don't worry. I've screwed with ESPN before. HPJoker Leave me a message 20:24, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LOL - 631 here. I'm just 100 away from reaching our set goal. (12,000) Also, since RFA voters love to see AFD votes, I started voting on just about AFD since yesterday. I want to get my 'Wikipedia' edit count to about 1000. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:57, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Player Stats

Would it be a good idea to upload a large image (seen extremely clearly) of every player's stats of the Celtics? I have a shot of just about everyone's stats. Tell me, and I will get started. Would you like to see an example? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:03, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be better to just input the stats ourselves. They can be sortable, and plus, some people can't even see the images. I would still like to see an example, though.   jj137 (talk) 01:23, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just emailed it to you. No point of uploading it. Should receive the email in 5 mins. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:38, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, well it's already gone, so now there is no real point at all of uploading it. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:41, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How does it look? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:45, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was about to start that, going to take a long time, unless of course there is a easier way, which I don't think there is. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:49, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I'll get started :) - Also, a lot, many of the articles need assessments of the Red Sox players. Get started on that to. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:58, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How do I make it link to the article talk pages with AWB again? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:22, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's ignored 60 pages so far - articles which have already been assessed. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:34, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - the first 200 were assessed, I just skipped them. Here we go - 1004 articles to assess. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:38, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Yeah I won't rush. I want to keep everything leveled out. If the RFA people see 1000 straight assessments - well, yeah... So I will vote in AFD's edit in the mainspace, and assess and keep everything balanced :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:41, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow - looks like more pages are being ignored now. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:45, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to be skipping several non-assessed articles. Under 'Set Options', I checked Skip if contains and put Red Sox. But it keeps skipping many many un-assessed articles. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:51, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm an idiot!! I had 'Skip existing pages' checked from last time! I'm going to continue from where I am now, I'll go back later. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:54, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article Devadasi revert war

Multiple sock puppets are adding false references about devadasis in this article. Devadasi phenomenon was an offshoot of old Hindu kingdoms in India. The phenomenon has ceased to exist for since 1925 AD. So everything in this article refers to the past not present.

The following IP addresses may be sock puppets of a single user using an anonymizing website for making edits.

All the following edits are coming via an anonymizer website.

   * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/61.246.36.63

So watch all the edits of all the above users and identify who is doing the vandalism if you can find out whether they are using anonymizer website esp. the last IP address 202.134.73.50 who has emptied the article MP3 twice.

Assessments

I created some templates for the asssessments - is that ok? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:23, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if that's a good idea. They're a little redundant, aren't they?   jj137 (talk) 23:37, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by that - they seem to be working fine. Here is a list:

Is the article is mid/hign importance, or higher class, I don't use the templates. I'll stop if you really think so. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:39, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(sigh) Ok. It just made it really fast. I would have '{{redsoxassessment' copied, and I would paste it then put '-stub', '-start', 'stub-nested' etc. Just made it 5x faster, but if you say so. Also, that some other assessments have that, and these seem to work perfectectly. :( - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:42, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert the changes the other person made to Port Moody? The PM article was incredibly bad (stupid long unrelated section on submarines, useless tables), and their changes had certainly improved it. Greg Salter (talk) 01:39, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joe castillo and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:59, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Draft

Yeah - I was in Cape Cod all day, and I got held up by the heavy snow while coming back, I came back about 30 mins. ago. Sorry. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:34, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who did I get - wait I'll check. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:37, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not all to bad - I got Prince Fielder :) - Javier Vazquez isn't all to bad. Oh yeah, only 891 pages to go for the assessment. :) or rather :( - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:43, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I do need something to do. Besides I'm happy doing this. :) And thanks for mentioning me in to newsletter. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My goal is to get em all done by the 20th. But I'll be up late today, and by the time I go to sleep, I'll probably have around 600 pages left :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 01:52, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Barnstar

Vandal Whacking Stick
For keeping it cool being attacked some, (definitely not) several,(no...) many, (nah...), uncountable (yeah, sounds right) times by vandals, and a particular one who kept bothering him from several different I.P.'s, I - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC), hereby award you this barnstar. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Copyeditor's Barnstar
For 'copyediting' hundreds of thousands of pages, and still aiming to copyedit to 10000 that are left, I - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC) hereby award you this barnstar. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That was unexpected, or rather I thought you would wait till I got all assessments done. Here are some for you. The first one I was looking for days, when you were being attacked by the guy (you know who), for that edit. I just somehow came upon it. The second one is, well.... yeah.... you know. Congrats :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:10, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Lol - you're welcome. I don't see a rule on Wikipedia for physical attacks. :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 02:36, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Out of all the 2.2 million articles on Wikipedia, you end of copyediting an article that I created, ^.^ Thanks! - Milk's Favorite Cookie 03:56, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh - Thanks X 2. There are several more to be done in my userpage :). Also, I saw the newsletter - thanks for mentioning me! - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:03, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take that as a compliment. :). Oh yeah, I just found a faster way to make AWB work faster :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:05, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it seems to work on my computer. Ok: When you click 'Save' after making you edit(s), click 'Start' as soon as the first scroll bar goes by in the bottom left hand corner of you screen. The edit count thing on your AWB screen won't update, but the edit has been made in real wikipedia. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:13, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, yeah. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - I see what you mean. BTW, the assessment scale on WP: BOSOX isn't automatically updated right? - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:21, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, LOL - AWB still says I made 0 edits, although I made 100. :) - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done! - Milk's Favorite Cookie 04:32, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
