Carroll Vincent Newsom

Born February 23, 1904 in Buckley, IL., Newsom received a B.A. from the College of Emporia in 1924, a M.A. from the University of Michiganin 1927 and a Ph.D. in 1931.

His academic career began as a mathematics instructor at Emporia College in 1924, at Michigan (1927-1928) and the University of New Mexico (1927-1928). He was appointed assistant Professor there in 1929 and served as Head of the Department from 1932-1944. He read at Oberlin College from 1932-1944.

From 1944-1948, he worked for the New York State Department of Education. Newsom was appointed Executive Vice President in 1955 at New York University and served as 11th NYU President from 1956-1962. Newsom was President of Prentice-Hall, Inc. from 1962-1964 and Director of the National Broadcasting Co. from 1961-1971.

Newsom died February 3rd, 1990 in Dublin, OH.
