Kelso was named after the early settlers Agnes and James Kelso who had a cattle property in 1878 called Laudham Park.

parts of this property where around Five head Creek, this is the area that feeds into the Ross River.

Most of what was Laudham Park is today under water due to the construction of the Ross River Dam and the rest is now the suburb of Kelso.
