SexBomb Girls

The Sexbomb Girls (or also known as SexBomb Dancers) are an all-female Filipina singing and dancing group.

History

The Sexbomb Dancers were originally composed of four members upon their formation in 1999. They were background dancers for Eat Bulaga, the Philippines' longest running noontime variety show. Of the four original members, only Rochelle Pangilinan remains part of the Sexbomb Girls, and is regarded as the leader because of her seniority.

The group began in November 1999 as the 'Chicken Sandwich Dancers' which was an offshoot of the Danz Focus (house dancers of Eat Bulaga). At first there were 4 (Cheryl, Debbie, Janice and Rochelle). The group expanded to 6 with the addition of Jopay and Aira. The group expanded to 8, 12 and 13 (during their first FHM appearance) to an all time high of 22.

The Sex Bomb 2002. The Sexbomb Singers were formed that same year, and are billed as Sexbomb Girls in their shows and promotional materials. The dancers did shows under the dance albums, Sexiest Hits Series and "I Like." The Sexbomb Singers and Dancers are commonly still referred to as the Sexbomb Girls.

The Sexbomb Girls is managed by Joy Cancio, of FOCUS E Incorporated. Joy is veteran of the Vicor Dancers of the 1980s

Public Criticism

- The Sexbomb Girls have long been criticized by moralists and conservatives in the Philippines. Their critics pointed out that the girl band promote the idea of sex through their songs (double-meaning lyrics), their dances (sex-oriented movements) and their appearances (showing off cleavage and underwear).[1]

- - Because their songs have been hits among the Philippine mass as well as children, moralists stress that more and more Filipinos now think of sex as a fun and enjoyable thing.

- - Aside from the sexual innuendos, the Sexbomb Girls were also slammed for immorality as well as their meddling in national politics (particularly when they performed as the official cheerleaders of defeated presidential candidate Fernando Poe, Jr. in the 2004 elections)...

Near breakup

The Sexbomb Girls almost broke up when internal fighting among its members started in late 2004 and it was all about money matters. All the members, notably Jopay Paguia, complained that Rochelle Pangilinan (the most senior member) was overpaid with her monthly salary of P400,000. The Sexbomb singers (including Paguia) at that time received only P80,000 a month. The dancers, on the other hand, were being paid only P30,000 a month.

The scuffle intensified in early 2005 when ABS-CBN (the rival of the band's home network GMA Network) featured an exclusive interview with some of the band's members. Many fans felt that the controversial TV interview signified that the band was definitely coming to an end as it was viewed as a rebellion not only against GMA but also against manager Joy Cancio.

Miraculously, a major financial deal was reached which restored stability in the band. Sexbomb's singers have all started receiving an equal P250,000 a month but the reform hit Rochelle Pangilinan hard as she saw her monthly salary fall down by 37.5% (or P150,000 less monthly). The Sexbomb dancers started receiving P55,000 monthly.

Conflicts with Eat Bulaga

The group was launched into a dispute with Eat Bulaga! in March 2006 when the show quickly hired former SexBomb Sugar Mercado after her contract with the group expired, and heavily promoted her. In protest, the girls left the show, and were later replaced by the EB Babes. The group did return to the show in December 2006 as part of a Christmas song and dance number. In 2007, the group began having a mock rivalry with the EB Babes, culminating with a "showdown" on-air in February 2007. The SexBombs later made a temporary return, only appearing on Fridays.

THE RETURN OF SEXBOMB MONIC ICBAN

Since Monic Icban left Sexbomb in 2005 there have been many Sexbomb girls starting to take her place by singing with the singers on numerous Daisy Siete songs and the adding of 2 new sexbomb singers, Danielle Ramirez and Jovel Palomo. But, surprisingly on May 25, 2008 a "gift" for Rochelle Pangilinan's birthday Monic came and guested for Rochelle's birthday on SiS. Then again on July 10, 2008 SiS gave another reunion for the Sexbomb Singers. And around that time Joy Cancio asked if Monic wanted to comeback to the group. And of course she says yes. Now the SexBomb Girls is on a mall tour to premote the New Season of Daisy Siete with Monic as a symbol of her return in the group.

SexBomb Moms

Sexbomb Weng, Evette, and Monic have each 1 child.

Members assigned in Japan

Focus E has assigned many Sexbomb members as well as Danz Focus members to Japan for charity concerts and as well as vacation. They have recently returned to the Philippines on March 2008. The excursion usually lasts six months before another batch of group members goes to Japan. The Japan excursion has led to much confusion regarding the current members of the group. Regardless, all the members sent to Japan are still current members of the group. Many rumors have spread that the members, specifically Aira Bermudez, assigned to Japan were pregnant, all of which were false. Currently, all the members of the Sexbomb Dancers are all in the Philippines, but according to Johlan Veluz's friendster account, there is a possibility of more excursions to Japan later in the year. The members that were formally sent to Japan were:

Rochelle Pangilinan

Aira Bermudez

Danielle Ramirez

Jovel Palomo

Johlan Veluz

Mae Acosta

Aifha Medina

Sheena Flores (originally introduced in Japan; newest member)

Jhoanna Orbeta

Performances of the girls in Japan can be found on Youtube. Just search "sexbomb japan." Rochelle Pangilinan has also been seen to have traveled to Japan to perform with the girls and promote her Roc-A-Holic CD.

Schedule Change

Recently, many fans have been wondering what has happened to the girls on Eat Bulaga. Some have speculated that they were removed, again. According to Michelle Mercado, the Sexbomb Girls will only appear on Eat Bulaga on Fridays because their taping schedule for Daisy Siete season 18 includes Monday. This is subject to change, most likely after taping season 18.

All of these were winners in the ratings game.

Their manager, Joy Cancio, has also been featured on the show and had Rochelle, Aira, and Jopay as guests. She was played by actress, dancer and TV Host Regine Tolentino in her (Cancio) life feature. Tolentino went on to portray Cancio in the other life feature of the Sex Bomb. Like the Sexbomb episodes, this was once again a ratings champion. To date, there is not one Sexbomb-related episode of Magpakailanman that is not successful.
