Loren C. Ball is an accomplished amateur astronomer who has discovered a fair number of asteroids while working at his Emerald Lane Observatory 843 in Decatur, Alabama. As of 2005, Mr. Ball had credit for the discovery of 146 asteroids with the Minor Planet Center at Harvard. Over the next few years, the majority of these designations will be given official numbered designations and become nameable. They will then be added to the 17 that are listed in the accompanying table.
