Corinne Luchaire (February 11, 1921 – January 22 1950) was a French film actress, who was the 7th star in French cinema on the eve of Second World War.[1]
Born Rosita Christiane Yvette Luchaire in Paris, she was journalist and politician Jean Luchaire's daughter. He supported the Vichy regime's Révolution nationale.
Jean's wife became Gustav Stresemann's mistress, went to Germany with Corinne. Corinne was charming, Stresemann's friend, Kurt Freiherr von Schröder let her live in his mansion. Corinne grew up with Nazis that frequented the banker Schroeder at his home. There, she had met German ambassador Otto Abetz. Until 1939, she was his mistress.[2]
She became a well-known, piquant French actress at the time, and would benefit from the political position of her father during Vichy France.
After World War II, Corinne did an attempted suicide, and escaped to Sigmaringen, Germany and Italy, but she and her father were stopped, transferred and imprisoned to Fresnes. Although she was sentenced to ten years of dégradation nationale in 1945, she was liberated after the execution of Prime Minister Pierre Laval. Her father, condemned to death, was shot in 1946.[3]
In 1949, Corinne Luchaire had published biographical book, Ma drôle de vie. It tells the situation that placed her on the top under the German occupation. She died of tuberculosis in 1950.
She was briefly married to a French aristocrat, Guy de Voisins-Lavernière, who served as Luftwaffe captain. They had one daughter, Brigitte, but divorced.
