Colonial High School is a high school located in Orlando, Florida. The school's principal is Dr. Paul Van Mitchell. As of August 2007 the school serves 3,851 students in grades 9 through 12, making it one of the largest schools in Florida. Colonial has one of the biggest Production Studios in Orange County, Florida headed by Nathan Whaley. In 2008, they celebrated in their 50th anniversary. The class of 2009 will be the 50th graduating class.
Athletics
Each year Colonial and University High School play a traditional Football game for the Boot. The winning school gets to display the Boot in a Trophy Case until the next game, this year of 2008 Colonial owns the boot. The school's athletic teams are known as the Grenadiers. They have one of the state's best athletic traditions, having won 34 Metro Championships.[1] Colonial High School also has an award winning winter guard program. The 2007-2008 A guard won 1st place at World Championships, in the Scholastic A class and moved up into Scholastic Open class.
Ninth grade center
Ninth grade center was established to be for the freshman of Colonial High School. It is home to about 1000 students. A principal from the school named DR. Allen retired in the end of the 2006-2007 school year. The gym is dedicated to him and was named after him. The school was recently renovated for the start of the 2006-2007 School year. Relief School
Colonial is one of the most populated high schools in Florida. Because of this growing problem orange county public schools is building a new high school to relief crowding in colonial and 2 other schools. A new school will open in the 2009-2010 school year. Incoming sophomores in the 09-10 school year will be placed in this new school.
