Lauren Lucas

Lauren Lucas (born in Columbia, South Carolina) is an American Tony award-nominanated country music artist. In her career, she has been signed two two major-label record deals, one with RCA Records and one with Warner Bros. Records. She has also released two singles, but no album. Her only chart single, "What You Ain't Gonna Get", reached a peak of #52 on the Billboard country charts in 2005.

Biography

Lucas was born in Columbia, South Carolina. In her hometown, she worked in community theater, casting in her first production at age three.[1] She later took guitar and piano lessons in pursuit of a country career, and first sang on the Grand Ole Opry at age eleven.[1] By the time she was a teenager, she had formed a band called Farther South, which played at several local venues. She also recorded a demo tape, which helped her to land a songwriting contract with Sony ATV/Tree Publishing, and a recording contract with RCA Records.

Lucas also contributed to the Broadway adaptation of the film Urban Cowboy, and one of her cuts for the play was nominated for a Tony award.[1][2] Although she had released an album for RCA, the album was not released and she exited the label. Lucas later attended Belmont University's school of music, and eventually befriended session guitarist and producer Biff Watson, who then helped her sign to Warner Bros. Records in 2003. She was signed to the label for two years, releasing two singles in 2005 ("What You Ain't Gonna Get" and "The Carolina Kind"), but her debut album, The Carolina Kind, was never released. Lucas also posed in the March 2005 issue of FHM magazine alongside Jennifer Hanson, Kerry Harvick, Catherine Britt, Shelly Fairchild, Jessi Alexander, Jamie O'Neal and Tift Merritt.[3]
