Jamie O'Neal (born June 3, 1966 in Sydney , New South Wales ) is an Australian country singer and songwriter.

Career

Jamie O'Neal was born in Sydney but grew up in the US states of Hawaii and Nevada . She gained her first experience in the music business as a background singer on tour with Kylie Minogue . The singer's breakthrough only came when she moved to Nashville, the Mecca for country music. Here she signed a recording deal with Mercury and released her first single There Is No Arizona in 2000 , which made O'Neal one of the female shooting stars of 2001. The song immediately climbed to number one on the US country charts in February. The second single When I Think About Angels reached the top of the charts in August 2001. Both songs were also represented in the top 40 of the pop charts. O'Neal's first album received a gold award in 2001 for over 500,000 units sold. Two other singles, Shiver and a duet with Mark Wills, I'm Not Gonna Do Anything Without You , hit the top 40 on the country charts.

Also in 2001, O'Neal sang a cover version of the Eric Carmen classic All by Myself for the soundtrack to the film comedy Bridget Jones - Chocolate for Breakfast . The global success of the film also made O'Neal's recording very popular. She received three nominations at the Grammy Awards . She was also nominated twice for the CMA Award , for the video for There Is No Arizona and for Best Newcomer.

O'Neal could not repeat the great initial success. It wasn't until 2003 that a new single, Every Little Thing , followed, which should usher in the second album. The song only reached number 34 on the country charts. Mercury, dissatisfied with the result, canceled O'Neal's contract and decided not to release the planned album On My Way to You , which had already been promoted to radio stations. Things went better in 2004 with Trying to Find Atlantis , after all, a place 18 in the country charts. O'Neal was now under contract with Capitol and in 2005 came their second album Brave , which partly contained songs from On My Way to You . With the single Somebody's Hero O'Neal was able to build on the success of 2001 for a few months, the song reached number three in the country charts.

After that the success curve finally pointed downwards. Singles like I Love My Life (2005), God Don't Make Mistakes (2007) and Like a Woman (2008) only made it to the middle of the charts. Another planned album was not released again. It wasn't until 2014 that O'Neal's last CD was released, Eternal . With the exception of the humorous single Wide Awake, it only contains cover versions of well-known country and pop classics. Golden Ring is a duet with Andy Griggs . With Griggs and Ty Herndon , the single Story of my Life was created a year later .

O'Neals occasionally writes for other artists. So took LeAnn Rimes in 1998 the title of Surrender on. In 2000, Tammy Cochran followed with the song So What , which hit the country charts. In 2004 Martina McBride had a hit with an O'Neal composition: So Far reached number 16 on the country and number 68 of the pop charts. Reba McEntire took on Pink Guitar for her 2009 album Keep on Loving You .

O'Neal is married to country musician and engineer Rodney Good. They have a daughter named Aliyah (* 2003) who also sings and followed her parents on stage.
